England against Switzerland

Corner to England. 30 seconds.

Into the last minute.

Good chance for Mehmedi who fires a shot across the face of goal and just wide.

Only one team winning this. And it's not England. England have done nothing in the last 10 minutes.

Three minutes added on.

Just a slaught would have been a start.

Where was the England onslaught?

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Barnetta is replaced by Emeghara

Ashley Young gets the England Man of the Match award from the broadcast company here. Says it all.

England still are not convincing. Is Theo Walcott still on the pitch?

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> On comes Mehmedi in his place.

The stretcher is out and Derdiyok, the Bayer Leverkusen player, is going to have to go off.

Derdiyok is down and needing treatment. This could be the end of his evening.

Just seen a replay of Bent's miss. Oh my word....

Ashley Young did brilliantly, shot from outside the area which the keeper could only parry. The loose ball came to the unmarked Bent who sidefooted over the bar. Got to be taking those.

WHAT A MISS

Should be an interesting 20 minutes. A draw is not good enough for either side.

Milner took the corner this time, and it was awful again. Nowhere near a white shirt and easily headed away. That was corner number six.

Corner to England.

<i>Opta stats:</i> Frank Lampard has now netted more penalties (7) for England than any other player, moving ahead of Alan Shearer and Ron Flowers.

Great play, it results in Baines firing a ball across the face of goal and Bent almost gets a tap-in.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> A change for Switzerland as Dzemaili replaces Behrami.

Young takes from the left and it goes over everyone. Rubbish.

Corner to England

England just have one sub left now, remember, with Baines coming on in the first half.

Deflected shot from Shaqiri, loops into Hart's gloves.

England needed to take the momentum on with the leveller. If anything they're reverted to the football of the first 36 minutes.

Shaqiri takes left-footed this time, and Hart takes at the second attempt.

Free-kick to Switzerland now. England will be worried.

Ashley Young should have started. Lampard is yesterday's man and is surely out with a fit Gerrard.

Game on now. England must be favourites.

By the way, Ashley Young came on for Frank Lampard at the break. A wise decision. Frank was awful.

Poor ball from Parker to Walcott, races through to the keeper. England look hungry.

And straight away Djourou seems to fell Walcott outside the area but the ref says no foul.

England kick-off in the second half.

Russia are now 3-1 up against Armenia. A hat-trick for Roman Pavlyuchenko.

If England lose this you have to think it is the end for Capello.

Switzerland had not scored away in qualifying before today. And they have two. Uphill for England after the interval.

And that's half-time, and as suspected there are quite a few boos from the home fans. Not full-scale, but they are there.

Lampard shoots and a pathetic effort spoons away to the corner flag. Pathetic.

This is 25 yards out. Lampard over it.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Foul by Behrami. He's a bit of an animal. Late on Milner and a yellow.

Fabio Capello must consider changing to two up front. This is not really working. A well drilled Swiss team.

Lichtsteiner looks to have felled Baines again but the ref is having none of it.

England harrying Switzerland in their half. They know they have to improve on this.

England have woken up, but that may not save them from the boos in four minutes.

Jack Wilshere takes a knock to the head, he'll be fine.

The ball comes back to Lampard to cross again, Ferdinand is still up there and he heads onto the top of the net. Better, but only just.

Lampard's corner is headed away, it comes to Walcott with the perfect chance to cross, and he more or less passes it to a defender.

But England do have a corner, won by Glen Johnson.

England just don't seem to have a gameplan. No real ideas.

If this goes on the natives will be restless at half-time.

Parker stands one up to the back post, Milner is there but heads wide.

The tabloid hacks with be sharpening the knives based on the first quarter of this match. Switzerland looking more likely.

Just hearing that the turnstiles have broken down at Wembley and there are still 10,000 fans outside. One wonders why kick-off wasn't delayed.

Carlton Cole played in Switzerland and looked good. Who'd have thought that was only in September.

Cole took a knock to his ankle in making a strong challenge with Behrami.

Cross from Milner ... over everyone's head. Poor.

Leighton Baines warming up, Ashley Cole may have a problem here.

Starting to look a little disjointed from England, and that is never a good sign with this team.

Theo Walcott has a great chance to run at the defence and get them on the back foot and, as we have seen so many times, he does nothing and loses the ball.

Bent tries to break forward, there's no support and there are four defenders to crowd him out.

Swizterland look lively, but their defence looks suspect. England should be able to get in behind them with their pace.

Barnetta and Shaqiri are quality, but Switzerland have lost all their strikers now.

The confirmed Switzerland team is Benaglio, Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Djourou, Ziegler, Behrami, Barnetta, Inler, Shaqiri, Derdiyok, Xhaka.

England won 3-1 in Switzerland in September in what was supposed to be the toughest game of the campaign. But the home draw with Montenegro almost wiped out the good work.

But with England still to go to Montenegro, they must beat Switzerland here.

England, of course, may suspect that this Montenegro side, the bottom ranked team in the group, is not in the form of last year.

England really need to win this game against a Switzerland side which is now very poor. Montenegro are at home to Bulgaria later this evening and will expect to win that.
