ESPN has no formation for this match, so here are the line-ups as a list.
And that's that! England get out of jail at the end but overall, did enough to win the game. Capello will be reasonably satisfied that he has enough to build on. Thanks for you company, until next time..
Great last gasp chance for the Swiss! James flapped at the corner and from the next phase of play Vonlanthen crossed and Behrami's header would have gone in save for a Matthew Upson block!
Corner for the Swiss, with 30 seconds left.
Ferdinand jumps well to clear a Derdiyok cross.
Three minutes to be added, as the Swiss pile forward.
One minute left of Fabio's debut, and if the scores remain the same the new boss will be pretty happy I reckon.
Ashley Young wins a corner with his first involvement.

Corner for the Swiss, with 30 seconds left.
Ferdinand jumps well to clear a Derdiyok cross.
Three minutes to be added, as the Swiss pile forward.
Ashley Young is coming on for his England debut and the departing Wayne Rooney gets a standing ovation as he leaves the field.
The game is currently locked in 'wind down' mode.
Good covering by Owen Hargreaves there after Wayne Bridge made a mess of his clearance.
Gelson Fernandes is off for the Swiss and Benjamin Huggel is on.
Nice turn and shot from SWP but it flies wide.
But they aren't finished at the other end as Behrami looks to unload towards James' net.
There are chances appearing on the counter attack for England with increasing regularity now as the Swiss do push forward.
Will the Swiss push on and try for the equaliser I wonder?
Nice break involving Gerrard, Crouch and Rooney, up against four dfenders. Eventually they work a shooting chance but Gerrard can't keep his effort down.
Strange crowd this, booing in the first half, now cheering every pass to feet in the second.
Now the fans are giving it the 'Ole' treatment during a long spell of possession.
Switzerland build deep in their own half before launching a ball that Upson smashes out of play.
Good tracking back from Rooney who concedes a corner, which James claims confidently.
Hargreaves will adopt the Barry role I assume, and Bridge for Cole is a straight swap at left back.
Ashley Cole and Gareth Barry are coming off, replaced by Wayne Bridge and Owen Hargreaves.
Fab is prolwing his technical area now, barking 'Press! Press!' at any player in his vicinity. Either his English is picking up or he's ranting at the media already!
Upson climbs well to clear a Swiss corner after Behrami's shot took a deflection off Rio Ferdinand.
Still no sign of Michael Owen warming up. Read into that what you will.
The Swiss coach, Kobi Kuhn, will obviously be disappointed at having only held England level for four minutes.
Capello will surely be more enthused with this second half performance from England, despite conceding the goal.
Now Crouch has a chance! A lovely crossfield ball by Bentley finds the towering freak that is Crouch and his volley is saved well by Benaglio - who has been excellent this evening.
England's formation has gone a bit haywire here, Rooney and Gerrard are on the left, Bentley is centre right while SWP is on the right wing. Barry is sitting very deep.
What a lovely little cameo from Rooney there! He collects a Crouch header, pulls off a Zidane type trick then fires a venomous shot just wide. Super stuff.
Now Hakan Yakin is off to be replaced by Xavier Margairaz.
Both England goals have been very similar, onrushing midfielder gets in behind and squares for fellow onrushing mifielder to tap into an empty net!
England were level for just four minutes!
GOAL! England hit back as Shaun Wright-Phillips scores with his first touch! Gerrard races onto a Crouch flick and crosses for SWP who taps home. England 2-1 Switzerland.
At the other end, Upson meets Bentley's free kick and a deflection sends it goalwards. Benaglio saves comfortably though.
Fabio is not happy.
Lovely ball from Hakan Yakin to set up the 19-year-old Derdiyok, who scores ten minutes into his first international game!
GOAL! Eren Derdiyok has flashed a left footed shot past David James as he escaped the attention of Rio Ferdinand. England 1-1 Switzerland.
Jermaine Jenas and Joe Cole are off while Shaun Wright-Phillips and Peter Crouch are on.
Looks like Fabio is shaping up to make his first substitutions, and I can just make out the lanky frame of Peter Crouch lurking on the touchline.
Another sub for the Swiss as Stephane Grichting comes on for Arsenal's Philippe Senderos.
Much better so far from England, three decent chances already this half.
Now Jenas goes close with a left foot half volley. Fantastic save by Benaglio.
Rooney again! He chests down an Upson flick and fires a volley just wide, via a deflection.
Super effort from Wayne Rooney after a lovely ball from David Bentley. He's tried to chip Benaglio who was a few yards off his line and the ball just dropped onto the roof of the net. Great try.
That's woeful from Ashley Cole as his namesake Joe sped clear of Eggiman. A very poor ball from the Chelsea defender.
Capello is currently surrounded by empty seats as the Wembley swag hunters prop up the plush bar their fat wads of cash afford them entry to.
What a shocker for Wayne Rooney! Bentley puts in a wonderful cross whioch lands at Wayno's feet but he neither controls it nor hits it and the ball trickles embarrassingly wide.
Glad we got that out of the way....
The Swiss have made three changes and on come John Vonlanthen, Valon Behrami and Eren Derdiyok for Blaise Kkufo, Daniel Gygax and Stephan Lichtsteiner.
And we're off again, no doubt with a few fleas in the ears of England's players.
That's that, and Fabio has plenty to digest at the interval, but at least he is one up, courtesy of Jermaine Jenas.
One minute of time to be added at the end of the first half.
The goal has buoyed the Wembley crowd too, who are having a bit of a sing-song.
Fabio applauded the goal loudly, as you'd expect. The word is that Joe Cole is the England player who has impressed him most in the last month and he's definitely been the best player on show so far.
That is EXACTLY what England needed. Hopefully, it'll settle their nerves. Well played Joe Cole.
GOAL! And Joe Cole provides it! He bamboozles Lichtsteiner and squares for Jenas who taps into the net from just six yards out. Good goal, and Fabio's first. England 1-0 Switzerland.
Best move for England! Joe Cole was through and fired in a fizzing left foot shot. Benaglio saved and a combination of Rooney and Gerrard just couldn't convert the rebound.
Now Rooney is flagged offside as Jenas threaded him through.
Joe Cole forces Benaglio into a decent save after a nice one-two with Gerrard. His low shot was travelling too.
England could do with some bright attacking play to lift the crowd before half time, or they might be on the wrong end of some stick.
With both teams playing 4-5-1, its clear who is more comfortable with it at this stage. It isn't England.
This is becoming very disjointed from England, and despite creating one or two half chances, they've looked pretty poor in between.
The Wembley crowd can be heard faintly chanting: 'One David Beckham, there's only one...'
Just as I say that Jenas bursts through the Swiss defence but delays his cross far too long and the keeper Benaglio claims before Joe Cole can slot home. Poor from the Spurs man.
Capello is prowling the touchline now, clearly not happy with this stuttering start by his England side. Boo! Resign!
Gareth Barry is penalised - somewhat harshly - for high feet but Barnetta curls his free kick a few yards wide.
At the other end Rooney collects a lofted ball from Gerrard but just can't find Bentley with his lay-off.
Now Gygax tries a punt and James saves well.
Free kick for Switzerland deep in England territory now and they very nearly scored!Senderos flicked on and Eggiman nodded just wide of the post!
From Bentley's corner Ferdinand climbs well but his powerful header is three yards too high to trouble Benaglio. Better from England though.
Nice cross from Ashley Cole there which has the keeper and Spycher flapping. Corner.
The Swiss look pretty solid so far and operate this system well. Senderos ends a nice spell of ball retention with a weak pass straight to Upson.
England do break well but it ends with a very poor cross from David Bentley. Fabio does not look impressed.
James comes to claim the corner well and England can break..
Now, Switzerland have their first corner after Spycher's cross deflects off Rio Ferdinand.
Ooh, Bernetta again goes close with a shot from range after Wes Brown (soon to be ex-England) gives away possession once more.
He, he! David James makes his first rick, horribly slicing a back pass from Ferdinand. Who had 19 minutes?!
Again Joe Cole looks the most inspired early on and Eggiman does well to block his pass to Gerrard. Rooney then goes close with a little flick from Ashley Cole's low cross.
Meaningless stat alert. England are dominating posession, by 61 per cent to 39. Yes, things have come to that already.
Well campers, its going to take more than 15 minutes to turn this England team around, of course, and it has been pretty limp so far.
Fabio is still hollering to his players from his seat, with srma crossed.
Spycher hacks Bentley down after the Blackburn star offloaded to Wes Brown. There are a few chunky challenges fly in, make no mistake.
Cole again looks threatening down the left but screws his cross out for a goal kick.
Joe Cole skips past two challenges and tries to release Rooney but Fernandes blocks his intended ball.
Rooney should have done better there really. He looked a little unsure of his left foot though, surprisingly.
First clear chance for England, Joe Cole slips Rooney in who only had the keeper to beat, but his left foot strike was well saved by Benaglio.
At least the players are piling in like this game actually means something. Already Bentley and Barry have gone into tackles with something resembling venom, quite opposed to any normal friendly.
Rooney got up from the free kick but got too much of the ball on his meaty forehead and it squirms wide.
Lovely feet from Bentley who hooks it over Spycher and it flattened. England free kick on the right wing.
Switzerland have the first shot after two transgressions from Wes Brown, who gives the ball away then fails to intercept a pass. It all ends in a Barnetta shot saved well by James.
The Swiss have loaded the midfield too and it already looks a bit cramped in there, as Fabio races pitchside to shout at one of his players. Go on Fab!
David James has to be on his toes as Gygax chased down a Barnetta through ball. He was onside too.
As for the action, England have sprayed it about early on with everyone getting a touch, and Swiss keeper Diego Benaglio had to race out smartly then as Wayne Rooney chased down a ball from Steven Gerrard.
The Wembley pitch has also been relaid, which is good news. It was a mess for the ill-fated Croatia game.
I forgot to mention by the way, that the teams have swapped colours for the evening as England are shamelessly plugging their new, red, away kit so the Swiss are wearing white shirts.
So, all is set and the Fabio Capello reign is under way...
Here come the anthems, to be followed by a minute's silence to mark the 50th anniversary of of the Munich Air disaster of 1958, in which 21 people died, including seven Manchester United players.
As you'd expect for Capello's bow, Wembley is a 90,000 sell out, and it looks magnificent.
Here come the teams to a far too enthusiastic announcement from the Wembley MC. It is only a friendly after all mate.
For the Swiss, as joint hosts of Euro 2008, they haven't played much competitive football of late and a game at Wembley against England will be a good chance for coach Kobi Kuhn to gauge what needs improving before the summer.
Switzerland line-up like this: Benaglio, Lichtsteiner, Senderos, Eggiman, Spycher, Inler, Gelson, Barnetta, Yakin, Gygax, Nkufo.
Here's the England team in full: David James, Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand, Matthew Upson, Ashley Cole, David Bentley, Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard, Jermaine Jenas, Joe Cole and Wayne Rooney.
The big team news is that Michael Owen has been dropped to the bench, while some eyebrows may be raised by the inclusion of Matthew Upson, Jermain Jenas and David Bentley.
Rio Ferdinand said entering the new regime felt like the first day at a new school, whereas Steven Gerrard talked repeatedly about respect - one thing is clear, Fabio Capello is not to be messed with, and it all means every single player will be desperate to catch his eye.
Ordinarily, this evening would be another exercise in footballing tedium. England friendlies are generally pitiful, riddled with substitutions, and choc full of players desperately trying not to get injured. But that has all changed with the appointment of a certain steely-eyed Italian..
Good evening one and all and welcome to the dawn of a new era in English football as Fabio Capello takes charge of the national side for the first time. Kick off is at 8pm and you can follow all the action on ESPNsoccernet with me, Chris Murphy.
