Manchester United against Swansea City

An aimless Young cross rolls out of play.

Ferdinand is down as Swansea break. The move ends with Sigurdsson firing over and now Rio can get treatment.

Decent break from Swansea as Allen releases Graham but though he had three white shirts up in support, he elects for a shot and hits it right at De Gea.

Well, it looks like Manchester United are going to ensure the title race goes down to the last day but they will want a few more goals to add to their tally.

From the fourth, Jones rises well but Vorm is across to claim underneath the bar.

Make that three, as Hernandez's shot is blocked by Williams. Now four, as Rangel blocks Young's cross.

Two corners in quick succession for the home side.

Surely just Fergie reminding the football world that Berbatov is available for purchase at the right price.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Berbatov gets a rare run out and Rooney trots off.

Swansea carrying much more of a threat in this second half as Sinclair cut inside and had a pop at goal. It's deflected behind for a corner.

And now Rooney has missed a sitter. Valencia to Carrick, Carrick to Rooney and he clips wide from 12 yards out only Vorm to beat.

A free kick is awarded to Vorm as he and Rooney challenge for a high ball. No foul there for me.

A nice link up between Sinclair and Graham yields a corner.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Luke Moore replaces Nathan Dyer.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Rooney gets his first yellow of the season, sliding in late on Britton as Valencia squared the ball to him. It had been coming.

Sigurdsson wins a free kick from Smalling. He wants the free kick too and almost squeezes it into the near post. De Gea is across quickly to palm away.

Nearly a disaster for Taylor as he plays a back pass to Vorm when Hernandez was lurking. That was tight.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Cleverley replaces Scholes.

A good battle between Sinclair and Valencia hands Swansea a free kick.

Tom Cleverley is about to come on.

Rooney jinks past Britton, then slips when Williams came across. He still won the corner though.

Britton has provided Swansea with some impetus since he came on. A very tidy player.

Oh dear Nathan Dyer. A superb ball from Sigurdsson finds the winger, who steps inside Smalling before blazing a shot over the bar from 12 yards. What a chance.

Now Graham gets the better of Smalling, but is adjudged to have fouled the defender. He missed anyway.

There's a goal coming here - Evra's cross is flicked on by Hernandez and Valencia meets it at the far post. Taylor stands firm though and kills the shot dead, before Vorm dives on it.

A slip from Rangel now allows Young a sight of goal but the defender makes up for his error with a solid block on the shot.

So nearly a Swansea goal! Allen shoots from the edge of the box, Graham diverts it on goal and De Gea saves with his legs before claiming the ball a split second before Sinclair pounced.

Super play from Young as he turns past one man, then clips the ball past Rangel as well. Caulker is across to clear.

Smalling has enjoyed getting forward in this game, with only Graham to mark. The move that he starts ends with a Valencia cross and a Hernandez header just over the bar.

Rooney catches Britton a little late but is quick to help his opponent to his feet.

A poor corner from Rooney is followed by an even poorer cross when the ball was returned to him.

A bit more urgency now in the game as United come forward again - Rooney finding Young and his shot is deflected behind for a corner that Graham nods behind.

And as United broke, Valencia fed Rooney in the channel, his ball to the back post for Young was flicked away by Dyer. Great tracking back.

And another decent attempt from the corner as the ball fell to Allen on the edge of the box but his left foot shot was weak and cleared upfield.

Decent effort from Sigurdsson with hardly any backlilft. It bounced in front of De Gea, who parried round the post.

As Richard Jolly points out, with Britton up against Scholes in midfield we've now got the English Xavi against the English Iniesta.

Good ball into the box from Sigurdsson and Graham wants handball off Smalling. Hard to see from here but the striker was convinced.

<b>HALF TIME</b> Smalling nods wide from the corner, as Carrick wins the flick on and that is half time. United well on top, and Swansea's tiki taka approach in their own half costing them a little here.

Super cross from Young but Williams is there again to nod clear. And again when Valencia gets past his man and has time to pick out a cross. Another corner.

Young releases Hernandez this time and his cross is blocked behind by Caulker.

Again, no celebration. Young races to get the ball back. Swansea insistence on playing out of trouble hurting them badly there.

A scramble in the area breaks to Rooney, his shot is blocked but it comes to Young who fires it into the far corner.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Young makes it two!

Nice again from Jones, who swaps passes with Valencia and tests Vorm at his near post with a daisy cutter.

Neat stuff from Sinclair, cutting inside Jones and sliding a lovely ball into the area to Taylor, who can't collect it.

Good ball in from Jones but a good header clear from Williams. The service to Rooney and Hernandez hasn't been of the quality you'd expect yet.

Valencia's shot is blocked by Williams.

Rooney tries a curling shot towards the top corner but can't get it down in time.

Dyer again fails to convince when he has space to run into, miscontrolling the ball and losing possession.

As they take the corner, Young's cross is flicked on by Scholes and Hernandez's shoulder takes the ball over the bar from two yards.

Young does his swan dive again as Rangel poked the ball behind for a corner. To be fair, he didn't appeal.

Jones gets into the box - United's full backs are essentially playing as wing backs, so pushed on are they.

It was very nearly 2-0! A great ball in from Valencia on the right and Hernandez fails to make enough contact on it to find the far corner.

No celebration at all from United - they instantly jog back to the penalty area with such indifference I wondered for a minute if the goal had been ruled out.

Valencia gets to the byline and pulls the ball back, Carrick stabs on goal and Scholes flicks it into the net from two yards out.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Scholes scores!

Caulker does well inside the area as Rooney looked set to pounce on a loose ball.

Young stays on his feet as Rangel flicked a boot towards him. Then his attempted pass for Valencia is poor.

A half chance for Graham as he is fed by Sigurdsson but his shot on the turn lacks power as Ferdinand came across.

Not a whole lot of urgency on show at Old Trafford so far. Not surprising the wind has been knocked out of United's sails.

Sigurdsson finds Dyer wide with Evra to beat but the winger returns the ball and the eventual shot is charged down by Carrick.

Two good saves from Vorm as first Evra then Young pepper his goal. The first was an excellent save after it took a little flick off Williams.

Rangel clips the advancing Young. He has been warned about his theatrical tumbles, but that wasn't one.

This is a great occasion for them, safe in mid table they can go and express themselves without a care in the world.

Swansea's fans singing: "Premier League and we're having a laugh."

Evra gets lucky as he nods Taylor's deep cross into Dyer's path but the winger can't control that ball.

Easy to see why Swansea have had success - their close passing is so accurate it often open up space for people like Sigurdsson and Sinclair to pick out a killer pass.

Carrick has a pop from range but Caulker gets a block on the ball allowing Vorm to claim it easily.

Rooney finds Hernandez inside the box with a good pass but Chicarito's control had to be perfect to allow him to shoot and it wasn't. Williams steps in.

Two dangerous crosses into the area but Swansea defend them both well.

Now Swansea gets some space on the edge of the area, the move ends with Dyer cutting in and hitting a shot over the bar with his weaker left foot.

A half chance for Rooney inside the area but he is closed down swiftly by a posse of white shirts.

Boring would be another word, but I wouldn't possibly dare to use that.

Low key would be a good way to describe this opening nine minutes or so.

Swansea struggling for an outlet up the field as Graham fights a lone battle.

Some loose passing from both sides so far. Rooney hits the ball right at Gower.

Carrick spreads the ball wide for Young but he can't control as the ball dropped over his head.

Very subdued atmosphere inside Old Trafford, predictably.

A poor cross from Jones as United worked the ball well down the left.

Some neat passing from Swansa to ease themselves into the game. The big pitch will suit them.

<b>KICK OFF</b>

Right we are all set. United need a big big win. Can they get it?

A hugely dramatic day in the Premier League - <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/scores?cc=5739" target="_blank">here are the latest scores</a>.

As for Swansea, Mark Gower replaces Leon Britton, while Angel Rangel and Neil Taylor are back in place of Andrea Orlandi and Garry Monk.

Javier Hernandez, Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia all return to face Swansea, as Sir Alex fields a much more attacking line up than last week at City.

Manchester City's victory at Newcastle means a win is a must for Man Utd today - even though their title hopes are looking slim at best now. Three points behind, with an inferior goal difference, they must win and pray QPR can do them a favour.

Roberto Mancini may have described Manchester United's game against Swansea as "easy", but Manchester City didn't find their last game against the Swans so simple so this could be a tough task for Sir Alex Ferguson's men.
