Arsenal against Borussia Dortmund

Credit to Dortmund, they are still pressing for a goal and Djourou has just conceded a corner.

This will be the 12th successive season Arsenal have made it out of the Champions League group stage. A truly enviable record.

The man just can't stop scoring!

<b>Arsenal 2-0 Dortmund.</b> Vermaelen with a Steve Bould-esque near-post flick on and Van Persie was there to thrash it in with his left foot from close range.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Van Persie makes it safe.

A first appearance this season for Diaby, he gets a warm reception.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Diaby on for Walcott.

Deflects off the wall and out for a corner.

Arsenal free-kick now, around 25 yards out, left of centre. Arteta lining this one up.

We're hearing Olympiakos have scored in the group's other game. That's good news for Dortmund, who face Marseille in their final game. Though the Germans need to win that one 4-0.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Djourou on for Koscielny.

Andre Santos finds Benayoun inside the box, who pokes it towards Van Persie. But Santana hammers it clear just as the Arsenal captain was about to pull the trigger.

It's just starting to get a bit niggly but Arsenal have asserted themselves physically. They're certainly not guilty of shying away.

Perisic cross from the left but it's easily picked up by Szczesny.

Very solid defending from Koscielny, he's done really well tonight.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Benayoun a little bit too terrier-like there. Late and through the back of Piszczek.

Benayoun tracks Piszczek like a little terrier and releases Van Persie. The Dutchman just offside though.

Dortmund pressing now but Song still fighting hard and he's drawn a foul.

What Ramsey actually did there was pass the ball back to where the free-kick should have been taken from. Poor from the ref.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Ramsey booked for 'kicking the ball away'

I'm not saying anything about that substitution.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Benayoun on for Gervinho.

Dortmund corner cleared away and Santana heads wide when the ball comes back in.

And the same can be said on the other flank from Gervinho. Yes, that was praise for him.

Walcott with some impressive tracking back.

Gervinho again struggles to get the ball under control. I'm honestly not picking on him - he's just giving me too much ammunition to criticise!

Fear not Gunners fans, he appears to be fine.

Leitner steps down on Van Persie's ankle. It was accidental but looked pretty painful. Concerned faces abound at the Emirates.

Arteta looks to be struggling.

Leitner just dwelling on the ball a little too much in a good position. He's done that twice in the last ten minutes.

Ramsey with a great cross-field ball to Koscielny. But now Song gives it away.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1123/mariogotze20111118_275x155.jpg"><br> Dortmund have struggled since Gotze went off.

Walcott lets fly with a great effort on the right side of the edge of the box. Just wide.

Too much pushing for the referee's liking and it's an Arsenal free-kick.

Perisic's strike deflects off Arteta and out for a corner.

About 30 yards out, left of centre.

Mertesacker gives away a free-kick for fouling Barrios.

Klopp giving Lewandowski a strike partner - last season's top scorer gives Dortmund an added threat up front.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Barrios on for Kehl

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Walcott show the yellow for his part in that disagreement.

Walcott the latest player to get involved with Schmelzer. The Dortmund full-back appears to be a tempestuous little so and so.

Gervinho again in space on the left-wing. He hangs up the ball but Weidenfeller collects the cross.

No. Poor again from Gervinho, he tries to take it around the goalkeeper and is tackled.

Ramsey puts Gervinho in the clear...

Arsenal 61% possession to Dortmund's 39% so far.

The game has just lost a little bit of tempo since the goal. Arsenal, unsurprisingly, looking to be more patient in possession.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1123/robinvanpersieheader20111118_275x155.jpg"><br> Robin van Persie heads Arsenal into the lead.

Dortmund pressing but Perisic can't quite reach a decent-looking through ball.

However, there is still plenty of time left for the German champs to get back into this one.

As things stand, Arsenal are going through and Dortmund are heading out.

Lewandowski takes on an ambitious effort from an acute angle and fires it over the bar. Always going to be tough to score when you are almost level with the byline.

Van Persie sends Gervinho away. He tries to take it on instead of passing and his selfishness results in the ball being given away. I think Wenger will be bringing him off sooner rather than later.

Arsenal free-kick in the middle of the pitch.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Schmelzer.

Schmelzer about to go in the book having cleaned out Walcott.

Ramsey and Schmelzer engage in handbags as they both run off the pitch. The referee quickly calms the situation down though.

Maradona-esque stuff from Song - a moment of individual brilliance has given us the decisive breakthrough.

<b>Arsenal 1-0 Dortmund</b>. Van Persie finished with a header but the man of the moment is Alex Song. He drove forward from midfield and with a combination of skill and power managed to get past a total of five players before crossing to RVP.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Van Persie.

Kagawa managed to accelerate into the left side of the area but he tried to shoot right footed across Szczesny and the Polish shot-stopper was up to the task.

Saved by Szczesny.

Great chance for Kagawa.

A really teasing cross that one, if anyone in yellow had gambled it would have been a goal.

Piszczek with a great break from right-back and his ball across goal was a dangerous one. But Mertesacker manages to knock it out to safety.

And we're off...

Second-half just about to begin.

Just spotted that Arsenal's starting XI are all from different nationalities. Not really sure what to read into that!

Gervinho isn't having the best of nights - I'd say Benayoun or Arshavin might be more likely subs if he continues to struggle.

<i>Comment from @ChrisPullem: Gervinho is off. Will Diaby see the pitch today?</i>

<b>HT Arsenal 0-0 Borussia Dortmund.</b> Decent game this, fairly open but with not enough clear-cut chances. Must do better. After coming fast out of the blocks, Dortmund have slowed down since Bender and Gotze were forced off injured and Arsenal have controlled the game more in the past 20 minutes. Lewandowski v Vermaelen proving an intriguing battle of wits.

There goes the half-time whistle.

Arteta holding his face after a clash with Lewandowski.

A few minutes injury-time here of course after Bender's nasty looking injury.

Ramsey with some space on the ball and he chips a lovely ball to Van Persie, but the Arsenal captain can't quite get it out of his feet on the edge of the box.

Song with a strong challenge to prevent the cross.

Perisic with open ground to break.

Superb right-wing cross from Walcott and Weidenfeller gets a crucial hand to it, just as Van Persie looked as though he's have a tap-in.

Schmelzer volleys one from the edge of the box but it's straight at Szczesny.

Arteta does well to make some space but then gives the ball away cheaply as he advances forward.

Again, Dortmund find themselves running unchallenged from the halfway line to the penalty area, but as the ball rebounds to Lewandowski it hits his arm.

Ramsey has not seen anywhere near enough of the ball - he's Arsenal's key creative player but he's rarely touched it.

But he's offside. Very close but the right decision. Pinpoint pass from Van Persie.

Walcott has the ball in the back of the net!

Lewandowski penalised for being a little heavy handed with Vermaelen.

Kehl given a ridiculous amount of room to run into and he shoots from 25 yards out. Poor effort though, high and wide. That looked like one out of my locker.

Arsenal have definitely come back striongly into the game and are beginning to assert themselves - no real chances yet though.

Gervinho fed in down the right - he and Walcott have swapped flanks - but he can't quite latch onto the ball.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/1123/alexsongbattledortmund20111118_275x155.jpg"><br>Song battles for the ball with Kagawa.

It's amazing how much noise the Dortmund fans are making. Really impressive support.

Koscielny looks for Gervinho but spoons his attempted pass down the line out of play.

Van Persie dropping deep to try to influence play.

Arsenal just keeping possession, taking things slowly. It's a good approach I feel.

Gervinho having a bit of a mare tonight. Loose touches all over the place.

Delightful turn from Ramsey sees him evade three Dortmund players and he finds Gervinho, who subsequently loses the ball.

The other game in this group is still Marseille 0-0 Olympiakos.

Good news for the Arsenal fans, bad news for Dortmund. Two forced substitutions in five minutes and their playmaker-in-chief is off.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Perisic on for Gotze.

Gervinho gives away a free-kick now, he lost the ball and was a bit late on Santana.

Arteta looks to release Gervinho, Piszczek intercepts though.

Wonderful effort from Lewandowski taking it on from 25 yards. His crisp shot flies just wide of the left-hand post.

Andre Santos the latest player to look in pain. Gotze also nursing his leg after a clash with Song earlier.

After all that it's an Arsenal free-kick. Arteta's delivery cleared.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Leitner on for Bender.

I'm no doctor but I'd say a broken cheekbone would be a likely prognosis.

Bender is in trouble here. He's got blood around his mouth and looks like he's going to be coming off. He blocked Vermaelen and was clattered in the face in the process. He's leaving the field on a stretcher.

Bender looks in some discomfort, it was his challenge on Vermaelen that gave away a free-kick but he has definitely came off worse.

It was a lovely pass from Ramsey to send Walcott in the clear just before.

Bender fouls Vermaelen and Arsenal have a free-kick.

Weidenfeller is out to meet the ball first. Only just though.

Walcott is in behind...

Arteta miscontrols and it's a goal-kick for Dortmund.

Corner for the Gunners. Van Persie to take.

Walcott released by Van Persie but Hummels shows good strength to shoulder him off the ball.

Van Persie aims for Mertesacker but he's beaten to the ball and it is cleared to safety.

Arsenal corner now as Andre Santos' cross is headed out.

Walcott with a lovely drop of the shoulder to get past Grosskreutz and it's a free-kick as he brings him down.

Van Persie gives it away in the end though.

This is a bit better from Arsenal - a patient, flowing move.

The Gunners struggling to get out of their half as Koscielny, Mertesacker and Vermaelen exchange passes.

Kagawa with an impressive mid-air lay-off towards Gotze, but slightly over-hit.

Lewandowski seeing plenty of the ball, but Vermaelen doing an admirable job of handling him at present.

Kagawa got to the byline but couldn't find a yellow shirt in a penalty area full of them.

Santos with a searching cross towards Van Persie. The Dutchman heads into Weidenfeller's hands. It was just a little too high.

Jurgen Klopp looking pensive on the touchline, he should be delighted with his team's start though.

Walcott runs at Schmelzer but the left-back blocks his attempted shot.

Dortmund have looked the better team offensively so far, with plenty of pace going forward. Arsenal just feeling their way into the game a bit at the moment.

Kehl heads narrowly wide for Dortmund from a free-kick delivery.

<i>Stat Attack: 13 of Van Persie's 15 Champions League goals for Arsenal have come at home. </i>

The ball bounces around the Arsenal area and as it looks to be dropping to a yellow shirt, Vermaelen gets an excellent interception in. Great defending.

Dortmund seem to be looking for Lewandowski where they can, he's very accomplished when it comes to holding the ball up.

Kagawa strikes but it's straight at Szczesny.

He finds Van Persie, who drags his first shot of the game wide of the right post.

Andre Santos is on the run, he's shown good strength and speed.

Song attempts to release Walcott but Dortmund have the ball back.

Good interchange in Dortmund's midfield led to that half chance. Perhaps slightly better communication needed between Vermaelen and Mertesacker.
