Arsenal against Marseille

Rosicky feeds Walcott, but the ball across is a poor one. Rosicky brings his man down again and may be lucky to still be on the pitch after already being booked.

Van Persie loses the ball again and he's looked a shadow of his weekend self.

Mandanda punches from under his own crossbar. He's been commanding from set pieces and the Gunners haven't really had a sniff.

Arshavin feeds Van Persie, who spins away and has a cross blocked. A chance from a corner now...

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Rosicky tries to make up for a Walcott error and hacks down Ayew.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Jordan Ayew off, Gignac on.

Good chance to break for Arsenal, but Rosicky doesn't have the pace.

Amalfitano again down the right and Arteta is tracking him back and tugging his shirt. He still gets a cross in and Mertesacker does well to clear it away from goal.

Amalfitano has seen a lot of the ball and gets another chance. This time he gets a shot away but it is dragged across the box and wide.

Andre Ayew heads wide from the back of the box. Was a hard one to control.

Amalfitano slips it between Santos' legs, but Mertesacker clears and then heads away when it bounces up. Vermaelen then does very well to deal with Ayew - a crunching tackle.

N'Koulou gets back well to stop Walcott's run. That could have been dangerous.

Best chance of the game bar none.

Great ball from Rosicky puts Van Persie away. He is through, but his confidence is too much and he tries a cute dink over the keeper which fails to come off.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Gervinho off, Arshavin on.

Song heads clear from a free-kick and the Gunners at least look solid at the back.

Good work from Jenkinson on the right, first with the header and then with the tackle on Ayew.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Valbuena off, Lucho on

Vermaelen and Szczesny get in a tangle with the keeper outside the box. Lucky for them the ball breaks to an Arsenal man and not an OM one.

Tiredness might be setting in now, which is a bit of a worry as the entire second half has not been great so far.

Ayew has a nice touch, a few stepovers, but there's little quality in the end. Cleared with ease and Vermaelen does well.

Walcott uses his pace and chips inside to RVP, who can't quite control. It slips away from him though.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Remy off, Amalfitano on.

Rosicky with a terrible ball. Floats it out of play under no pressure at all.

Cheyrou pushes Song over and there are plenty of OM players behind the ball. They are on the backfoot now.

Arsenal probing and have a lot of the ball, but there's something lacking.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Ramsey off, Rosicky on.

Walcott runs and beats his man, gets his cross in but again Mandanda is there to claim. Has to be good to keep it out of his hands.

The game has turned a bit scrappy now...

RVP looks likely and is roaring around the pitch with great energy. Arsenal need that if they are going to get the lift.

Ramsey loses and then brings down Diarra. He stays out of the book as well, which is impressive.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Park off, Van Persie on.

Great run and cross from Cheyrou. Three men to aim for in the box and it flashes across the box. No-one there to touch it.

John Brewin: <i>This end to end yet neither team look capable of scoring a goal. Yes, I will accept those may be famous last words.</i>

Valbuena gets the ball inside the box, gets past Santos but then slices his half-volley well wide. Poor really.

Gervinho's first touch lets him down on the far left and Arsenal aren't looking quite as sharp as the first half. An injection is needed.

Vermaelen clears out of the hands of Szczesny and Santos fails to get rid of it. The goalkeeper claims and has some choice words for his skipper.

Valbuena goes down like he's been shot, after a clash with Song. No booking, but it is an OM free-kick in a wide area.

Remy is offside, but that was some good neat passing from OM. Mertesacker was the last to step up and did so just in time.

Jenkinson overlaps and tries to get the cross in. Too close to Mandanda though...

Song slips a lovely ball to Gervinho at full pace, but Diawara does very well to cover and come across to block him.

Van Persie warming up on the touchlines, so the Arsenal fans may get their wishes soon.

Vermaelen charging forward with intent, but Walcott loses out after bursting into the box. If he could have hammered it across, there were men in the middle.

Andre Ayew beats his man and unleashes a shot, but he cut across it and it drags wide.

Gervinho, Park and Walcott all look to break, but it's sloppy from Walcott and the ball is lost. They have a good chance to counter if they can provide a final ball.

Jordan Ayew sprints away, but Song does well to track him. OM can be dangerous from corners though.

Vermaelen comes across to cut out the ball to Remy. Great positioning as the Frenchman was clear.

Gervinho does well, but his ball is plucked out of the air by Mandanda and there's still a lack of quality in the final third.

Arsenal looking confident and the crowd are already crying for Van Persie.

Gervinho runs at the defence and has room, there's a gap for Park to run into, but the Ivorian slips a complicated ball that is snaffled by Mandanda.

Arteta swings in the free-kick, Mertesacker tries to flick it on and Vermaelen attempts to get there ahead of the keeper. It flies over. Not quite sure why Mertesacker didn't try and score himself.

Diarra hacks down Song and that could be his last chance. No second yellow, but the next one might be.

No changes at the half, Arsenal will want to win this while Marseille might settle for a draw. Should be an interesting 45.

<b>SECOND HALF KICK-OFF</b>

John Brewin: <i>Half-time and Arsenal and Marseille played out the last ten minutes with caution after both had displayed real attacking intent.</i>

Will be interesting to see what Wenger has made of Park's contribution. Not seen much of him at all.

<B>HALF-TIME</B>. No injury time at all and a very open game so far. Marseille look dangerous with Remy against Santos, while Gervinho and Ramsey are impressing for the Gunners. Still 0-0.

Park shows some stamina to chase down the defenders, but that's the most we've seen from him so far.

Vermaelen with an important tackle and that has been one major plus from this half so far for the Gunners.

Ramsey finds himself on the other side of the defensive line and tries to get away, but doesn't have the pace. His ball across to Park fails to find the mark.

Andre Ayew with a great bit of skill down the right, but Mertesacker clears his cross.

No, it's Arteta, but that lacks quality and dips past the post.

Could be a Vermaelen blaster by the looks of things...

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Diarra comes across and takes out Ramsey as he drove forward. Just outside the box, but there's no RVP on the pitch.

Vermaelen lumps it up long, but Park is not the lone frontman that thrives on such service.

Walcott looks to get away back on the right, but he is brought down from behind. Pretty clean game so far and the ref has yet to produce a card.

Remy is still the dangerman for OM and looks to run at the defence. He's stopped, but only just.

Ramsey now pops up in the box to get on the end of a Walcott cross. His header is saved with ease by Mandanda. A few metres to the right or left and it could have been interesting.

Ramsey peels away on the edge of the box and tries to chip the ball in to Park. Diawara just gets his head on the end of it to clear.

Diarra has a go... he did score at the weekend, but he won't here.

Arteta loses the ball, not for the first time, as Cheyrou is getting the better of him.

Santos has his tackling boots on again and he picks a good one to break up the play.

John Brewin: <i>Park's touch too heavy, more Robbie Savage than Robin Van Persie.</i>

Gervinho again does really well and he's released Ramsey just outside the box. The Welshman dwells on it though and Diawara is there to block. That was an even BETTER chance!

That was a good chance. Park's touch should have been better, or Walcott should have had a shot earlier inside of passing.

Santos knocks it to Gervinho who smashes a shot in, well saved and it comes out to Walcott who cuts to Park in the box. His first touch lets him down and the chance is gone.

OM now looking to attack and Remy/Ayew combo are looking to find space ahead of Valbuena. Szczesny comes out and claims as a dangerous ball comes in.

Park wins a great header and Gervinho gets away. He knocks it inside and gets the return ball, but the defender is back to block him off.

Both teams have had decent chances so far. I don't think this one will end 0-0.

It comes to nothing though. Walcott was burning up the turf trying to get back and help out. That's a good side to his game this year.

Ramsey gets free and loses the ball, now Santos is miles out of position and Marseille attack the space. Santos tries to get back but looks like he's picked up an injury.

Now a neat one-two on the egde of the box as Remy comes inside. His shot fizzes past the post, but Szczesny had it covered... just.

Walcott has a chance to open the taps and runs at his man. He cuts inside to shoot, but fails to get enough on it and it's an easy save.

Arsenal are pressing well and forcing the OM players back.

Santos gets away down the left and picks a cross to the backpost. Ramsey arrives, but hits it over and that could have been better. Good chance.

Park is having little joy when he gets on the ball. He loses it again and Valbuena has it at the other end, stinging the hands of Szczesny.

Jordan and Andre try and link up in the box, but Vermaelen comes across and cleans up.

Gervinho slots in Park, but the Korean can't quite knock it ahead of him and has to check back. The chance passes as Marseille's players get back.

The passing moves are starting to flow from the men in red. Song loses it though, as he tries to thread it to Park.

Dreadful free-kick by Arteta, easily headed clear by Diawara who was given plenty of warning the ball was arriving.

John Brewin at the Emirates: <i>''Great atmosphere generated here, mostly by the OM Ultras.''</i>

Arsenal slowing things down and looking to keep hold of the ball for a bit. Marseille have had the better of the opening exchanges.

Gervinho picks it up and drives at the heart of the defence again. Good shot, hit low, but it was right at Mandanda.

Morel attacks down the left and is in a similar position. The ball is overhit again and Marseille's attack fizzles out.

Jenkinson times his run well and the pass just overreaches him. He spotted a gap, but the quality wasn't quite there.

Walcott and Gervainho have switched wings now in a bid to shake things up a bit. The ball is back to Szczesny who had to dance around Ayew before clearing.

Arteta chips into the box, but nobody was attacking it.

Santos is free and hits a cross against Diawara, who handles just outside the box. No card though.

Arsenal look a little more likely to get themselves on the scoresheet now. Walcott finding space down the right.

Good save, and the keeper then comes to punch from the corner (which is one of his favourite things to do).

Gervinho takes the ball and runs at the defence, slots it Walcott and his shot is tipped round the post by Mandanda.

Santos was bursting away down the left, but Gervinho lost the ball as he looked up to pick the pass. Poor control and that would have sent the Brazilian away.

A poor corner from Valbuena and he's been poor so far.

Santos caught out again and robbed of the ball. Remy gets it and cuts inside; the shot flies over but Vermaelen got a touch.

Valbuena has room and space to pick a ball, which makes it even worse that he hammers it out for a goal kick.

Walcott looks to break and find Park, but loses the ball. Marseille are controlling things.

That was a real warning sign to Arsenal. Got away far too easily down the right and Santos was caught out again.

Great chance for Marseille. A burst down the left with Remy and a great cross to Ayew who stabs just past the post.

Arteta loses the ball and Marseille break. A great ball to Jordan Ayew, who could be away again but has to check back as Vermaelen comes across. The chance is gone.

Diarra trips Ramsey, but no foul and Song has to tidy up. Arsenal not had much of the ball so far.

Arsenal defence sleeping a little and Jordan Ayew could have got through. The Gunners need to switch on.

Park showing plenty of industry and also gets through as Walcott finds him. He has to backtrack and loses the ball trying a pass.

Valbuena runs into a wall of Mertesacker. Ayew gets down the right and his brother Jordan has a backheel that goes wide.
