Bayern Munich against Barcelona

Van Bommel smashes long. Wide. He's not as good as he used to be.

Yellow card for Borowski. It won't matter, of course, but he would have missed the semi.

Er, forgive us for having our eyes on another game. This looks special at the Bridge.

Liverpool have now scored again.....no way....

Lucas scores for Liverpool. It can't be, can it...?

Phil Lahm makes a nice burst though. He tried one of his Costa Rica efforts but did not get the height. Comfortable for Valdes.

Treble subs. Altintop on for Sosa. Borowski for Ze Roberto. Barca's is Hleb for Iniesta.

Bayern set to make some subs. At this point, he may as well put himself on. It will not make the blindest bit of difference. There is a considerable gulf between these two. A continent's worth.

So, that's it...should we bother? Oh go on. We will.

Over at the Bridge it's now 3-2 to Chelsea...Lampard.

Iniesta smashes in to end matters....Iniesta's skill on the edge of the box. Lovely passing move and then passed across to the Malian who pumps it in from eighteen yards out. Goodnight, Vienna. Or at least, Bavaria....

Fans getting angry as the game peters out.

Free-kick to Barcelona on the edge of the box. Played by Iniesta and then Messi smacks over from the edge of the box.

Messi pumps away from the defence. Eto'o waits for his ball in to finish this. Lucio came in to stop him.

Just over twenty to go. They need one in the next five. That pass - by Toni - is not the one to change things.

Toni penalised. The fans thought they had a penalty. No deal there. Alves took one in the testes for his troubles.

Bayern wanted a penalty. Only Toni thought he had it. Puyol nowhere near and disdainful of his opposite number.

Messi lost it but then seemed to think he should have a foul because he didn't control it. A bad habit to get into or the fact that this rarely happens? We'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

The miracle of Bavaria is not quite with us yet. Or likely to be. Barcelona are comfortable.

Iniesta weaves and whips past two. But then is knocked over for his troubles.

Messi offside from an Iniesta slide-rule. It was marginal - to be polite to the linesman.

Free-kick to Bayern. Lell fouls his defender and another dead-ball chance is wasted.

But Messi buys time for his team-mates. They're happy to pass it around. It has to be said they're the best around at doinf that, too.

Sosa's ball in. Smashed away. Bayern play a nice move.

Barca now pile forward. But Sosa has it now. Toure now stops Ribery on one of his charges.

Ribery hold the slim hopes at his feet. He then takes aim but has it blocked.

Over at Stamford Bridge, another Chelsea goal. A great goal by Alex.

Iniesta on the run. Beats two and then looked to be fouled. No pen says ref Rosetti.

Klinsi looks up for it on the bench. Can he believe?

Messi looked likely to score but then skewed his shot. Came off Lucio's face and behind. No handball, as the Spaniards wanted.

Barcelona are trying to take the sting out here. What can they do? Messi, always at the centre of matters, tries to thread through.

Eto'o robbed by Demichelis as he tries to muddle through.

Eto'o juggling act but then Lucio smacks clear.

Pendulum swinging then. See, this was no foregone conclusion.

Right, the cigar has been dimped. And over at Stamford Bridge it's a goal to Chelsea....

And, hello, Ribery has a goal. He cuts in from the left, beat two, made time for himself, gave the keeper the eyes and then scored. Four more and they're home!

Barcelona playing with the proverbial cigar on here. No subs for Klinsi.

Off we go. Just the five in 45 then. No problem at all. Bayern set off to achieve the greatest comeback in European football history.

A better half for the Germans than in the Nou Camp but few could see this as anywhere near possible.

Abidal looked to have fouled Lell but a corner results. On second look, it was a corner. Bayern again make a mess of it on the second ball. Offside.

Ribery fouled as he makes a run. Plays with confidence as ever. He seems to know he will beat the man before he's got it. Same with Messi of course.

Toni gets a chance. Slipped in by Van Bommel but made too wide an angle and missed.

Klinsmann must be singing The Smith's "I Know It's Over" to himself. He's got his hands in his pockets.

A slalom run from Messi and then he's brought down by Van Bommel. Clash of heads. Messi is up. To a chorus of boos.

Messi fouled by compatriot DeMichelis. Who then gives him another kick. Doesn't get the ball though.

Corner taken short and Ribery comes in from the flank to fire a shot just wide. He's been the best player on the park.

Alves wallops it into the wall and the unmentionables of the Bayern players. They clear it. Ribery plays in Ze Roberto but it's headed away.

Ze Roberto fouls Iniesta. Barca will fancy it from this distance.

DeMichelis stops Messi after the little one bewitches Ottl. Corner is cleared.

Ribery free-kick is knocked away. Another offside results. Barca push out again. They've worked out the ponderous nature of Bayern's attack.

Alves cuts in and smashes with his left. It's wide but not a bad effort at all.

Lahm has to put behind. Barca turning the screw.

Ottl plays it out wide and Lell is offside. A waste. Keita breaks out left. Out to Messi. He plays through to Eto'o. Bayern clear at the last. Lucio slid in to stop him.

Half-hour gone. Five to find.....

Xavi's kick gets through. Butt palms away. No-one gets to the rebound.

Messi round the outside. And wins a free-kick. Looked soft and as if he was the aggressor.

Lahm crunched by Alves. Good, whole-hearted stuff.

Ribery, holds the key. Bayern do look capable of scoring, just not five of them.

Bayern - they try their own miracle. Lahm's shot charged down. They're going for it.

It's 2-0 Liverpool. Well, well, well.

Penalty to Liverpool....

Valdes comes out to claim a free-kick. Can only punch behind. He was assisted, says the referee.

Puyol tackles Ribery when he was second-favourite. Then commits to a silly foul. He's booked too.

Messi attempts a one-two - trademark - on the edge of the box. But not this time. Lahm clears.

Xavi will take. Keita flicks on to no-one. Bayern breathe again.

Barcelona moves breaks down. But Alves does a Messi and wins a corner. Great skill.

Bayern look far more settled. Alves robs Lahm though. Iniesta finds Abidal. Out to Messi. Alves shot charged down.

Can we a comeback here? Bayern do look the better team. It rests with Ribery, if you ask me.

Over at Stamford Bridge it's 1-0 to...Liverpool. Great free-kick from Aurelio.

Ribery clearly baulked but Ze Roberto took on the mantle to link with Toni. Barca clear.

He looks to be OK. Ball hit back to Barca. Via what looks like a shot. Toure back on and booed for his troubles too.

Yaya Toure suddenly goes over. No-one near him. Those are always the best.

Ribery shows more skill. Some nice skill makes a Toni pass look good. A twist and turn and a shot that just goes over. The Frenchman looks hot stuff - as a footballer.

Eto'o double-teamed and it's a Barca free-kick. Again, it's taken easily. Alves then fouls Lahm.

Lahm pings the ball in. Barca clear. Van Bommel plays a hopeful ball and then Puyol slips but Toni cannot get to it.

Well, they don't score this time but Messi and Eto'o linked well before Lucio hoofed clear.

Barcelona have scored 132 times this season. Wow.

Barca encroach on a throw-in. Turns out it was Bayern's anyway. Confusing.

Corner comes in. Barca fail to clear. Poked in and Toni is there. Offside, he smashes in. Some cheering but it's in vain. At least they're having a go. A German version of "Roll out the Barrel" rings out.

Ribery shows why he's so rated with a great burst down the wing.

Sosa sets off on the wing. Great ball in. Toni gets up and fluffs his header. That had to go in. It didn't. Shades of Euro 2008 from the Italian.

Xavi sweeps up in the midfield. Barca playing it calm. No blitz for them yet.

Jurgen's up for this. Has a go at his men. What can they produce?

Riberry plays in Toni. Poor attempt at a flick but Bayern gain some time in the Barca territory. That is, until Toni is offside.

Lahm can only smash it away. He's up against Messi tonight.

Lucio gets heated after being penalised for a foul on Keita. Ref calms him down.

Messi - risked - in action. Fails to win a corner.

Barcelona begin with boos ringing out. Good voice from the Bayern fans. A win would do for them, let alone a 5-0 win.

Late start here. No reason given but we're still shaking hands and exchanging rosettes.

No Thierry Henry for Barcelona. No Schweinsteiger for Bayern. Those are the headlines - Barca have put out a strong team. They could kill this in minutes. Though can the dead be more dead? The undead, I suppose.

And our referee is Roberto Rosetti, who I think is pretty good. The Soccernet kiss of death is placed.

Barcelona: Valdes, Dani Alves, Puyol, Pique, Abidal, Xavi, Toure Yaya, Keita, Messi, Eto'o, Iniesta. Subs: Pinto, Caceres, Gudjohnsen, Henry, Sylvinho, Hleb, Busquets.

Bayern Munich: Butt, Lell, Lucio, Demichelis, Lahm, Sosa, Van Bommel, Ottl, Ze Roberto, Ribery, Toni. Subs: Rensing, Van Buyten, Altintop, Borowski, Badstuber, Breno.

Our home page calls Liverpool's task at Stamford Bridge as "Mission Impossible". Compared to Bayern's task tonight that looks like stealing sweeties from a baby.

Toni penalised. The fans thought they had a penalty. No deal there. Alves took one in the testes for his troubles.

Bayern wanted a penalty. Only Toni thought he had it. Puyol nowhere near and disdainful of his opposite number.
