Chelsea against Aston Villa

Luiz is the latest Chelsea player to fancy a shot - this one, though, is blocked on the edge of the area.

They have been annihilated here, and with five minutes - plus stoppage time - to go, is it going to get worse?

Shellshocked Villa are still trying to put some passing together, but they look collectively stunned.

GOAL: And he slams an absolute screamer into the top corner - another great finish and it's SEVEN for Chelsea. A festive nightmare for Villa.

Hazard is twisting and turning on the left-hand side of the area, buying himself space.

You'd imagine they would like to avoid yet more damage but, with ten minutes or so left, that may not be the case.

They have ten minutes of this endurance test left.

Bowery on and Holman off for Villa, who you would imagine will be glad just to get away from Stamford Bridge at the end of a horrible afternoon for them.

GOAL: And he blasts it in - it's six for Chelsea.

Herd looks perplexed, but the decision stands and Oscar will take.

Oscar goes into the area, where Herd is trying to stop him. There's not much to it, but Phil Dowd says penalty.

Lovely skill from Bennett on the Villa left, but his team-mates can't make anything of it and Chelsea come forward again.

That fifth goal could have arrived before it did - but it was beautifully worked, and powerfully dispatched beyond Villa's overworked keeper.

GOAL: He looks up and finds a peach of a pass to play Ramires through the middle. His fellow substitute strikes it hard and low beyond Guzan, and Chelsea have five.

It's snuffed out, but the ball comes back to Chelsea and Piazon has it.

Villa are still trying to do all the right things, but they're not coming off, and there's another break on for the Blues...

Lucas Piazon is on for Juan Mata - a Premier League debut for Piazon.

Another change in the offing for Chelsea.

The visitors come forward and sling a cross towards Benteke, who gets something on it but nowhere near enough to bother Cech.

Ramires and Oscar, two of the new-ish arrivals on the pitch, link again before Villa get a foot in.

It's fair to say that Chelsea could have had at least six by now, but Villa - as befits a Paul Lambert team - have not given up. They've just been outplayed today.

Another sweeping move, and the home fans are enjoying this.

Oscar has a great chance almost straight away - again Moses, who has been outstanding, plays him in, but he drags the ball wide from the right of the area.

And that's what happens: a big ovation for Torres, and Oscar is into the fray to replace him.

It looks as though Torres could be about to make way for Oscar - the number nine has had a fine game today.

Another swift move ends with Guzan making a save and Bennett scrambling the ball clear - but only just.

Chelsea again raid forward with Mata, enjoying the space they are getting.

Great chance for a Villa consolation - a good ball from Ireland to Weimann, and the ball flicks off Cech, off the bar and over. Fine stop from the Chelsea keeper.

I'm not at all sure this game is going to stop at four goals, and Torres threatens to burst through before Villa get it away.

Chelsea should have had a fifth - Moses does the work and squares to Hazard, who blasts over from inside the area.

Off goes Lampard to a huge ovation, and on comes Ramires.

Weimann crosses towards Benteke as Villa seek a consolation, but again Chelsea defend it well.

GOAL: But within seconds, he's beaten - a superb strike from outside the box by Lampard, which swerves into the corner. A third cracker of a goal in Chelsea's four, and a fitting way to mark his 500th Premier League game.

...but Guzan stands his ground and saves superbly.

More flowing football from Chelsea - the ball is worked to Moses, who has a shooting chance...

A double change for Villa: Ireland on for Westwood, Bennett on for Lichaj.

Chelsea break again, and Cole swipes a shot into the crowd.

End to end: Benteke has a shot deflected behind for a corner, which Westwood will take.

From that clearance, Torres sees his attempted cross from the left deflected and then hacked to safety.

Lowton finds a ball towards Benteke, and Gary Cahill is forced to scramble it behind. The corner, though, is disappointing and easily cleared.

He's on the edge of the box and hits a shot that deflects from a corner. The kick is played deep to Lampard, who volleys into the ground and Guzan saves.

Holman does well, chasing his own pass after it had been deflected and forcing Chelsea to clear. They come forward, and Hazard and Mata find Torres.

Better from Villa there - some good harrying of Chelsea in midfield, where they are getting a bit closer to both Lampard and Luiz, giving them less time to play.

Torres and Moses link well, and the ball is played in towards Juan Mata, who gets the shot in and sees Guzan make a fine stop, tipping it over.

Torres tries to get on the end of a long ball forward, but he's crowded out.

Long goal-kick from Cech, which goes all the way through to Villa counterpart Guzan.

Chelsea starting the second period in much the same way as they ended the first. And something else hasn't changed: as Villa play the ball forward, Benteke is caught offside again.

Villa get that away, and then Hazard tries to make ground down the left but is well stopped by Herd.

The ball is played forward early to Fernando Torres, the scorer of the opening goal, and cleared for a corner...

Villa get the second half under way - can they find a small glimmer of hope from somewhere?

And that's the half-time whistle: Chelsea in total control. Cracking goals from Torres and Luiz, plus a more ordinary one from Ivanovic, mean it's 3-0 against Aston Villa at half-time.

Bannan tries to sweep a ball out to the right, and it rather sums up Villa's day so far, instead sweeping straight out of play for a Chelsea goal-kick.

Lovely touch from Mata, bringing down a difficult ball with ridiculous ease, but the move fizzles out.

Two minutes plus, you'd have thought, no more than a minute of added time until the break, as Cech claims comfortably from a Villa ball into the box.

... and goes straight back out again, thanks to a powerful defensive header from Fernando Torres.

Benteke fouled on the Villa left. The free-kick comes in...

Villa, you feel, will welcome the half-time whistle. They have struggled to cope with today's opponents, and have failed to muster a shot on target.

And if it's not that, it's an offside against Benteke. Again, the striker wanders too far forward.

Bannan and Weimann try to find a way to make something happen, but there's always a Chelsea interception, it seems.

Again, Chelsea in possession. Again, Villa can barely get the ball. The Blues are knocking the ball around superbly well at times but, as Lampard flicks into the area, they are thwarted by an offside flag.

... he shoots from outside the box - it's well hit but too close to Guzan, who gathers comfortably.

Hazard wanders down the left to win another free-kick. This is in a dangerous crossing position, and it's played back to Luiz...

Chelsea have been controlled, and you feel there are more goals here for them.

This is a tough afternoon for Aston Villa, and there's a lot of it left to go.

GOAL: Cahill has a shot blocked well by Guzan, but it bounces up for Ivanovic, who is unmarked and knocks in a close-range header. 3-0, all over.

Neat possession again from a comfortable Chelsea down the right, and it wins them another corner.

Lampard scuffs his flag-kick, but the attempted Villa clearance is also scuffed. The second corner is intercepted and ends up with Guzan via a further Villa block.

No, it's Mata - it hits the wall and goes for a corner.

Another free-kick for Chelsea, 30 yards or so out, but further to the right than the last one. Luiz again?

So, two terrific goals for Chelsea, and this game may be over already with just half an hour gone.

GOAL: And he hits a belter of a shot, bending it up and over and beyond a helpless Guzan. Brilliantly done by the Brazilian.

It will be Luiz, who is giving himself a bit of a run-up.

Could be Lampard again; Luiz also looks interested in the situation...

Bannan is dispossessed and a Chelsea counter ends with a promising free-kick after a foul on Hazard, outside the area and central.

Moses and Luiz combine: a cross comes in and pings about a bit before Villa get it clear.

Benteke finds a touch for Weimann, who steers it back towards the striker... who's offside.

The Blues haven't faced a genuine threat in this game so far and appear, as we approach the half hour, to have it in comfortable control.

Azpilicueta, who made the Torres goal, plays it forward down the right - but again, Chelsea lose it. A few grumpy mumbles from the home stands at Stamford Bridge.

Villa play it long, looking for Benteke. Too long. They don't find him.

Herd gives the ball away to Chelsea. Cole floats a cross to Torres who is - perhaps a touch clumsily - blocked off by Baker.

He does, but it's easily blocked by Villa.

A bit of the fizz has gone out of Chelsea's attacking play since those purposeful early minutes. Luiz gets the ball just outside the box and may have a go here...

Holman is crowded out for Villa inside the Chelsea half, and Mata tries - and fails - to find a ball through for Hazard.

Paul Lambert's visitors scramble it away, and do the same moments later as Moses tries to twist his way into a crossing position on the Chelsea right.

Westwood and Bannan again involved - but then Luiz comes forward and tries to get Mata involved inside the Villa area

Suddenly, it's all gone a bit sleepy from Chelsea.

Bannan and Holman link well for Villa, but the final ball in is too long for Benteke.

When the ball comes over, Benteke is there to head powerfully away for Villa.

Another Chelsea move brings a corner, which Mata will float in...

Villa had a similarly fraught start at Anfield - although they didn't concede during that one - before getting well and truly to grips with the game.

Bannan outfoxes Hazard as he tries to move Chelsea forward down the right.

Villa beginning to settle down a bit after their disastrous start.

Lowton makes a promising run, but Ashley Westwood fails to find him. That was an opening - or would have been if the ball had been right.

That ball floats over almost everyone and David Luiz - that's midfielder David Luiz - is there to sort things out for Chelsea.

Good ball forward down the Villa left. Holman gets to it, and Cahill concedes a corner.

Then Moses does well to find some space down the right for Chelsea - his cross is dangerous, but scrambled away.

Villa get the ball forward towards Benteke, but the offside flag is up.

That said, Chelsea produce a wayward moment of their own, the ball flying into touch before Ashley Cole can get anywhere near it.

Westwood gets a touch for Villa, but they can't really put anything together at all at the moment in the way of passing.

A loose touch from Villa and Chelsea look to break, sweeping the ball from right to left. Lampard picks it up and the Blues are looking very neat.

Torres chases another ball into the area, but Guzan is there first. Villa come forward, but Lowton is snuffed out on the right of the Chelsea area.

Another goal for Torres, and an early test for Villa - how will they respond? They have barely had a touch of the ball so far.

A dream start for Chelsea, and the much-discussed ability of Rafa Benitez to get the best out of the man who starred for him at Liverpool is certainly showing.

GOAL: He crosses well, and Fernando Torres finds an absolute gem of a header, powering it past Guzan and high into the net. Great goal for Torres, great start for Chelsea.

Play is switched to the right, and the neat move continues with Azpilicueta, who will look to swing this one in...

It's a neat and tidy start from Chelsea, who build well down the left.

No sense of occasion, that Aston Villa wall. They block. Ivanovic plays it in, but keeper Guzan claims with confidence.

It's within shooting range for the 500 appearance man, this one.

And off we go - Chelsea get things under way and win an early free-kick as Torres is fouled.

Refereeing duties this afternoon fall to Phil Dowd.

It will be Frank Lampard's 500th Premier League game. Villa won at the Bridge last season - can they repeat the feat and spoil his big occasion?

Both, of course, are coming in to this game on the back of good wins: Chelsea beat Leeds 5-1 at Elland Road in the Capital One Cup, while Villa produced a great performance to win 3-1 at Anfield

And now Villa: Guzan, Herd, Clark, Baker, Lowton, Bannan, Westwood, Lichaj, Weimann, Holman, Benteke. Subs: Given, Ireland, El Ahmadi, Albrighton, Delph, Bowery, Bennett.

Here are your line-ups from Stamford Bridge. First, the home side: Cech, Azpilicueta, Ivanovic, Cahill, Cole, Luiz, Lampard, Moses, Mata, Hazard, Torres. Subs: Turnbull, Ramires, Oscar, Ferreira, Marin, Piazon, Ake.

Benitez has told Sky he has selected "a team for winning" but stressed the need to "use the squad" given the fixture pile-up.

Villa, who start with Christian Benteke and Andreas Weimann in attack, have also started to find their feet under Paul Lambert, and their convincing victory over Liverpool should serve as a warning for the Blues.

However, it could well be a tough game for the hosts, who are likely to be feeling the effects of fatigue after returning from Japan at the start of the week and then facing Leeds on Wednesday in the League Cup.

The form of Fernando Torres could well be a key factor in the game, and Rafa Benitez believes the Spain striker is getting back to his best.

David Luiz will again take a place in midfield for Chelsea after impressing in the Club World Cup victory over Monterrey.

Hello and welcome to the live commentary for Villa's game at Chelsea.
