Spain against England

We're just going through the motions now.

The memories of those wins in Croatia and Germany (they lost at home to Norway tonight) come into focus now. This is still a work in progress

SWP chases a long ball, Reina chests it away and then hoofs clear

Capello seems very thoughtful on the sidelines. He's sure to have learned more from the negatives than the positives

Awful defending from England. Llorente was left free and left by Upson and after the fine delivery from Xavi there was no doubt Llorente would head home for his first international goal

GOAL!!!

Free-kick to Spain. Xavi floats it to the back stick for Llorente...

Arebola catches Beckham on his ankle. A bit of payback there

...and Cole launches a shot high, high into the sky. Awful effort

Great cross from Johnson on the right and he finds Cole free in the centre...

Beckham catches Arbeloa late and the Liverpool defender goes down clutching his foot

Still one change left for Spain in this game

Can CArlton Cole have an impact in this match? Or will he join Francis Jeffers and Michael Ricketts as a one-cap wonder?

So, no time on the pitch for Ashley Young again. Quite amazing. SWP off form and gets the full game. Young not a single minute

And England make a final change. Carlton Cole makes his England debut in place of Agbonlahor

Another sub for Spain as Abiol is replaced by Carlos Marchena

Good cross from Gabby on the right, it finds Lampard free in the box who can only place a header into the grasp of Reina. Half a chance.

SWP cuts in well from the left flank but can only fire directly at Reina, who claims at the second attempt

Spain look so much more composed on the ball.

35-yard effort from Alonso, back off a defender

Crouch and Senna clash and the Spaniard goes down hurting. Crouch won the ball but went through his opponent

England haven't even had a sniff of goal in this second half. It's been a timid performance

Crouch chases down a hopesful ball with Pique amashes away

Senna fouls Lampard

Ashley Young amazingly is still to see some action. Capello is not a fan it seems

An other change for Spain as Torres makes way for Fernando Llorente

It's a laboured England performance, little sign of organisation or a gameplan

Xavi plays in Torres through the centre but Upson just does enough to prevent a route through on goal and Green collects

Foul by Terry on Iniesta

The England band remain in fine voice. Not much to cheer here though

Poor pass from Lampard trying to find SWP down the flank. No sign of the match improving

David Silva comes on for Davis Villa. Spain's half-time subs saw Casillas and Capdevila go off

SWP goes on the run down the left but never really looks up. Nothing doing for England at the moment.

Free-kick to Spain on the right, again they take it short and look to work an opening

Cole fells Senns. Free-kick

This time Xavi floats it into the centre - easily headed to safety

Another corner and more good work from SWP to run with Ramos

The corner is taken short and Spain and forced back

SWP tracks Ramos and blocks the cross for a corner

With the likes of Beckham and Lampard on Capello will hope for their experience to tell. Can they make the difference?

SWP picks up another knock - he'll try to run it off as England have one change left

Off for England: James, Heskey, Jagielka, Downing and Barry

Beckham delivers and forces Reina to punch to safety

Johnson is felled by Arbeloa. Free-kick on the right

We're off

On for Spain: Pepe Reina and Alvaro Arbeloa. We'll try to confirm who has come off

Coming on: Beckham, Rob Green, Matthew Upson, Frank Lampard and Peter Crouch

Changes at the break. And Becks is on to make it cap number 108 and match Bobby Moore's record for an outfield player.

Hardly the best match you're ever likely to see, but Villa's goal was true quality and Spain have edged it

And that's it - half time

One minute to be added on, not sure where it's come from.

Ramos hits one from out on the right, sensing James' lack of confidence, but the keeper handles it well

Two minutes to the break and Becks continues to warm up. Will he be on for the second half?

It comes back out to Alonso, who powers a shot well wide

Great football sees Iniesta find Capdevila and he places a pass to Villa - his shot is blocked.

Albiol gets across to cut out a cross from Heskey. Good work by the Villa man but he could not find Gabby

Carrick is caught late by Alonso, a few words from the ref and nothing more

Senna tries one from range, lands on the top of the net and no danger for James

Great cross from Downing on the left which Heskey tries to head home, but for the umpteenth time the ref penalises the big man for a foul

Brilliant footwork from Villa. He mesmerised Jagielka completely going one way and then the other and sidefotting past James. Sheer brilliance

GOAL!!!

Alonso feeds in Villa through the centre...

Capdevila gets a knock to the head in the melee. Needs a bit of water on the head to clear him up

Downing's free-kick slams into the top of the wall. Wasteful attempt. If only Becks was on...

Downing and Barry stand over it

Excellent run by SWP as he beats down and draws a foul from Pique. Free-kick to England 20 yards out

Woah! James spills a simple catch and Jagielka has to be sharp to poke it away from Torres. An escape for the keeper

Torres turns superbly into the box and shoots - it hits and defneder and loops up high and will be an easy catch for James

SWP is felled by Pique. It's taken short

No real urgency for the opposition to close down and pressure. It's a leisurely friendly

Albiol fells Heskey and it's a cynical foul. If this was not a friendly he'd be in the book

Spain score an offside goal as the TV picture are on Torres looking injured. Villa was indeed about five yards offside. A correct call. No sign of further Torres woe

The Mexican wave has arrived. That tells you what you need to know.

We've seen very little of SWP and Downing on the flanks. England need to find some width and drive

Keskey nods it on for Gabby, who can only help it on to Casillas

Spain definitely look the more coherent team right now, passing it around with much more purpose

Barry is tugged back, free-kick

It was rolled left to Capdevila who hits a weak shot which is sidefooted away by a defender

Villa is tripped by Cole. Chance now from around 30 yards out

Long-range effort from Senna, simple catch for James

Terry blocks a turn by Villa, the deflection runs behind for another corner which this time goes over the top of everyone

Xavi takes the corner from the right, easily cleared at the near post

Ball bounces around on the edge of the box, eventually Torres sees a shot deflected behind for a corner

Good direct run by Gabby down the flank but Abiol has the better of him

Another poor decision as a foul goes against SWP on Capdevila. Looked a 50-50 challenge

But wait! The flag is up for offside against Heskey. We're not sure how he was miles on. Something for Spain to worry about as Heskey seemed to have Pique

Heskey is through on goal - it's a great chance but Pique brings him down on the edge of the area

SWP has picked up a knock after a challenge - Becks is warming up and maybe we'll see him earlier than expected?

Johnson has the pace to outsrip Torres in running for the ball and feeds his back to Pompey team-mate James in goal

Downing takes from the right, Barry gets a free header but can only just place it wide. I didn't really have the pace to cause a problem if on target though

Corner to England as Abiol cuts out a cross. A chance to deliver with danger

You can see Spain still have the confidence which has seen them go 28 games unbeaten. This should be a great test for Capello.

Foul by Senna on Barry - free-kick in the centre circle

The small band of England fans start their own oles as their team passes it arounf

Barry receives the ball on the left from Cole and the Villa skipper crosses into the box. Gabby (it's quicker to type this) gets on the end of it and a sprawling Casillas sees the shot fly inches wide of his right post. Close.

Spain playing some neat stuff now, the home crowd with the oles

Both teams sounding each other out at the moment. No sign of early control

Torres goes down under a barge from Terry - referee waves play on. A first chance for Rafa to wince as Torres goes to the deck

It's going to be gone 11 UK time when this finishes now. Disgrace! Heskey and Gabby kick off

At last. We're there!

Players are out now, national anthems to go.

Still in the tunnel lads! Not long now we hope.

No sign of the teams yet. We'll be late off here

Former Manchester United defender Gerard Pique makes his debut in defence for Spain. No David Silva, with Torres and Villa up front and Xabi Alonso on the right

Phil Jagielka gets his reqard for his fine for with a place in the defence alongside John Terry - Rio Ferdinand has a virus. Gabby Agbonlahor is up top with Heskey and SWP also gets a game

On to the team news then, and Frank Lampard finds himself on the bench tonight with Michael Carrick coming in alongside Gareth Barry. David Beckham has to be content with s place on the bench as he looks to match Bobby Moore's record for an outfield player of 108 caps.

Sadly, we're not in Spain. We're in an office where the air conditioning has broken down and we're avoiding meltdown with a strategically placed oscillating fan.

It's really hot here as Spain take on England in Seville as Fabio Capello's resurgent side meet the European Champions
