Switzerland against Portugal

And another Swiss change. Hero Hakan Yakin is replaced by Ricardo Cabanas

Change for Switzerland. Lichtsteiner is off and Stephane Grichting on

Free-kick to Portugal out on the lefy. Quaresma takes but it goes straight through to Zuberbuhler.

Poor old Lucas Flecha. He had big money on Portugal!

Perfect penalty from Yakin, powered into the top left-hand corner of the net. 2-0 to Switzerland!

GOAL!!!

It will be Hakan Yakin...

Penalty! Barnetta triped by Meria. No hesitation by the ref. Spot on.

Miguel and Barnetta get booked for a bit of handbags. And there goes my appearance point for Barnetta!

Turkey are back in it against the Czechs. Turan on target again

Scolari's not happy about that - it could cause problems furher down the line

Yellow card for mouthing off to Meira

To Kayer Chang. Head-to-head comes before goal difference. That's why top spot is already decided in all four groups

Mistake by the Swiss and Portugal have three on two. Quaresma is played in - he's caught between the square pass and the shot and in the end does neither

Loads of people really should be studying. Obviously you are easily distracted.

Hard to see Portugal breaking sweat for a leveller now. Just like Vienna, it means nothing to them.

Postiga comes off now. Hugo Almeida on.

Free-kick to Portugal on the right, Nani crossed in but it was flicked clear and Barnetta heads away the second ball

It was coming. Inler flicked Hakan Yakin clean in and he didn't hesitate with the early strike with beat Ricardo. 1-0 to the co-hosts!

GOAL!!!!

Change for Portugal as Veloso is replaced by Moutinho

Foul by Nani on Inler. He's not happy with that decision

Andrew Levy: 'Its about 95 degrees here and I'm sitting here with no AC... Literally sweating out the game...' You sure you're not called Homer?

A snap shot from Barnetta is dragged wide

Swizterland are playing well now. Maybe they can finally get a victory in this tournament?

Sameer is our second reader in Sacramento. We're big in Sacramento. Fact.

Looks like I'm watching Croatia v Czech Republic. The Czechs are two up against Turkey

Bahrami has two drives, both hit a defender, and the loose ball drops to Inler who produces a rasping drive which goes inches wide. Ooooooh!

Ribeiro is booked for a foul on Lichtsteiner. Tony Manton says Ribeiro is the worst player in the squad!

Martial Taillefert comes up with a beaut. What does this mean? 'I'm on the pacfic ocean right now, somewhere off Baja California, we're coming back from a research cruise on hydrothermal systems in the middle of the Pacific.'

Switzerland have improved no end with Barnetta on the pitch.

Barnetta feeds in Inler who miss-hits a shot harmlessly wide

Inler does well just inside the box, holds off his man and crosses to Barnetta at the near post. He can't connect and it comes off Miguel for a corner, which comes to nothing

Corner to Portugal, Nani takes, straight to Zuberbuhler.

Change for Switzerland. On comes Barnetta in place of Vonlanthen. I've got Barnetta in my fantasy team too. Sub Pepe now and then give me a goal for Barnetta. Perfect

Blast from Quaresma forces a good save out of Zuberbuhler - Postiga cannot get onto the loose ball

Quaresma seems to catche Magnin and he goes down clutching his face. He was never touched. Amazing!

By the way, gambling is officially evil if you are in any of the applicable US states. You should not consider doing it. Ever.

I knew I should have had a bet on the 0-0

As I've already told you, Mr Daniel Lal, there's a match on ESPN Classic

Sean O'Sullivan is messing with his anti-virus. I bet.

...Nani hits the post! It looked like he'd broken the deadlock, and he really should have done. It's behind for the goal-kick

Pass out left by Veloso for Nani, with Lichtsteiner missing the ball. Nani races onto the ball and is clean through....

I hope Pepe makes it to 60 minutes. I need this clean sheet for my fantasy team

Quite a few people seem to be watching the other game on TV and have their laptop in front of them with my commentary on. It's nice to know you're second best

Veloso puts in a free-kick from deep and again Postiga heads over and again he's offside

Jon Carter, our correspondent in Geneva, tells me he is getting rained on as he is too close to the front of the press area. We're so sorry for you, JC...

Great cross from Quaresma, Meireles just can't get his head on it

The lure of the custard donut was just too much.

The teams are back out. And we're on again

0-0 at the break. Who would have thought it? Portugal have been the better side... just. It's breathtaking stuff. More of 'what are you doing while reading this rubbish' in 15 minutes. newsdesk@soccernet.com

Yes! It's half-time!

We're well into injury time, by the way. You're missing nothing

Paul Butler - good one from him: 'While I read the GC I am sitting at my boring job trying to convince people to buy stupid antiques while I play my guitar. Like this for example, I am soo bored that I am emailing this to you guys wherever you are. Laters from Ohio, US'. Thanks Paul, it makes us feel loved here in the amazing surroundings of Hammersmith, London

Daniel M Lal - you can watch the games online via ESPN360. That's my synergy for the day.

I like this one from Kevin Johnson (what a great surname). He's working on a proposal for a client while his Russian mother-in-law cooks in the kitchen. Know your place!

Jeanine Nault wonders what's happened to Ronaldo. Simple - rested for the likely match against Germany in a few days

Just a couple of minutes until I have to get in the elevator for a cup of tea again. No sign of either tea machine on this floor being fixed

Did you know: Jorge Ribeiro is the younger brother of Maniche

A change before the break for Scolari as Ferreira is off for Jorge Ribeiro. Scolari is protecting his first-choice left-back who picked up that yellow. He's got a real shiner as well, Ferreira

Jennifer Walker, live from Sacramento, tells me she's following the game during her daughter's soccer practice. Football frenzy.

In your head: 'Oooooh Vienna'

Goal for the Czechs from Koller, which means right now I'll be watching the Czechs v Croatia in Vienna this coming Friday.

Vonlanthen is booked for angrily throwing the ball to the ground. He'll miss Switzerland's next game. Oh, hang on.....

No! The flag's up! Offside! The TV replay shows Postiga was clearly at least a yard onside. Another awful decision by the lino

Quaresma feeds in Postiga, he's through and must score... GOAL!

Quaresma looks to have created space for the shot, Lichtsteiner has other ideas and makes the block

Corner to Portugal, taken from the right by Nani. Postiga gets up at the near post but can only head over

I like Mike Jenkins' question. What are you doing while readin this rubbish? I've always wondered that about people reading GC. Email newsdesk@soccernet.com

Looks like Behrami is coming back on. He looked a goner.

Corner comes in from the left, header won by Yakin and Ricardo produces a great save diving to his left to keep it out. Made up for the previous error.

Yakin takes the free-kick, it's floats harmlessly out... but Ricardo punches it out! Corner

Behrami isn't going to continue here. A real blow for the Swiss, he can be a danger

Apparently Hakan Yakin got booked a couple of minutes ago. I must have missed it in all the excitement

Ferreira really caught Behrami there. He's in pain and needs extended treatment. The stretcher is out

Ferreira is booked for a lunge on Behrami. Good chance for the Swiss now, free-kick out on the right flank

Mafalda Melo has guaranteed to me that no-one is reading this. Thanks.

Yakin floats one to the back stick, Senderos tries to get on to it but it runs out for a goal-kick

Nani is caught by Senderos on the left corner of the box. Free-kick again. Nani takes, curling it to the far post - Zuberbuhler is apparently fouled by Postiga

Vonlanthen comes forward but is greedy in shooting from the edge of the D when he had options - it's dragged wide

I get the feeling there are far more people following the meaningless game involving the Czechs and the Turks.

...Postiga's sidefooted shot from the penalty spot was heading for the corner - great block by Senderos to keep it out

Inler is robbed by Nani and he breaks with pace down the left and cuts it back for Postiga...

The resulting corner comes in from Yakin, Ricardo is at see again but Behrami's header is poor

Snap shot from Vonlanthen from the left flank forces Ricardo to palm over the bar

Scott Woodhouse claims I want to discuss food. No. Those donuts are enough of a temptation as it is.

Still goalless in Geneva between the Czechs and the Turks

Quaresma will curl in the cross from the set piece, it finds Bruno Alves at the far post and he heads at Zuberbuhler. He may have been better heading across goal

Another free-kick after a foul by Inler, it's out on the right flank and another promising situation

...Woah! Pepe tried to just guide it home and Zuberbuhler stuck out a hand to push it onto the bar. So close to a goal. Good save

Good chance for Portugal now as they win a free-kick for a foul on Meireles. Nani smashes it from 25 yards out, it gets to Pepe eight yards out...

Corner to Switzerland. Ricardo makes a real hash of coming out for it and and punches as far as Bahrami, but his shot takes a deflection and end up with the Portuguese goalkeeper

Referee Konrad Plautz of Austria must be working on behalf of his fellow co-hosts

Nani almost gets in at the byline but fails to get past Lichtsteiner. Nani wants a penalty and it must be, but the ref denies him! Lichtsteiner was nowhere near the ball

If anyone's wondering... you're missing nothing in Basel...

Early suggestions - Simpons, Ugly footballers and Angelina Jolie movies. Thanks to Ricardo N. Bedoya, Alex and Mike Jenkins. The Jolie suggestion is rubbish, mind

This may be a long 90 minutes. At least I have Vienns to look forward to at the end of the week.

Quaresma's started well, he looks hungry.

The ref's a bit whistle happy early doors

Thanks for all your Michael J Fox emails last night. It helped me through a troublesome 45 minutes. What obsecure discussion can we have tonight? Suggestions to newsdesk@soccernet.com

Quaresma shows some neat skill on the left and produces a sublime cross reversed with his right foot. Postiga rises and heads over but he was offside anyway

I can confirm that nothing is happening in this game. Oh! Lichtsteiner's just fouled Ferreira

Not to mention the bag of custard and jam donuts which is still in the office from earlier. Mmmm... donuts

Let me tell you, tournament football is no good for the arteries. Processed food is the order of the day for the best part of a month. Delightful.

There's not much open food-wise around the office on a Sunday. Ended up being sausage and chips from the chip shop. They'd run out of tomato sauce though. How does that happen?

Free-kick to Portugal now and a chance to get it into the box from deep. They opt to play it short

Corner to Switzerland. It's played short to Magnin but his attempted delivery goes directly to Ricardo.

Now this could go one of two ways. Humdinger or bore draw. Which will we get?

Portugal get the game started

The Swiss, playing their last match under coach Koebi Kuhn, made just two changes. Goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbuehler, who is also set to retire after the tournament, came in for Diego Benaglio and Johan Vonlanthen replaced Tranquillo Barnetta on the left wing.

Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari only retains experienced goalkeeper Ricardo and defenders Pepe and Paulo Ferreira.

Portugal make eight changes including the entire midfield and attack against eliminated Switzerland.

Afternoon/Morning/Evening football fans! Dale's Johnson's back with another big game. After Greece v Russia I now bring you the dead rubber of Portugal v Switzerland!

Hard to see Portugal breaking sweat for a leveller now. Just like Vienna, it means nothing to them.
