Aldershot Town against Manchester United

Guttridge lines up the free-kick and hammers it! Amos is forced to spread himself to the fullest to tip it round the post. That was almost a real screamer.

McGlashan almost catches Fabio sleeping, but Amos collects with ease at the near post. Aldershot are pushing for a goal and they deserve one for all their efforts.

Berbatov full of running still. He looks like he's just happy to play.

Hytlon goes down, no penalty, and the ball rebounds to Guttridge who slices wide. The best chance for a goal all game for the Shots but it would only have been a consolation.

They just want the ball and try to keep hold of it, but fail. McGlashan bursts forward and his cross flies too far.

Valencia is tugged down by Straker and it's another chance for United to deliver into the box.

Vidic and Park both give the ball away in quick succession, but Pogba is doing a good job of breaking up the play and wins it back.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Rankine off, Smith comes on.

Hylton bursts clear and gets the ball across to Rankine. It's well cleared though.

Hammers it right into the centre of the goal and Worner parries away over the bar.

Berbatov wants it...

Park glides through the entire defence. He somehow stays on his feet before McGlashan came in with the tackle in the box, but the ref has given a foul on the edge of the box.

Morrison and Berbatov combine well on the edge of the box but Jones is there to slide in and clear from the advancing Worner for Aldershot.

Herd clears from Berbatov and then does a few stretches. Shows how much the Shots players are feeling the strain now.

Morrison bursts forward, but his ball across finds no-one and United are now just holding onto the ball.

Park is found at the edge of the box, but the defending is good and he is closed down quickly.

Morrison gets the ball caught under his feet as he tries to twist away from his man. He does get a corner though, which is to be taken by Owen?!

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Vincinti off, Jamie Collins.

McGlashan again tries to get on the end of the ball over, but it's just lacking quality.

McGlashan's pace gets his past Fabio, but Vidic is there to stab the ball out as he looked to get away down the line.

<i>Mark Lomas: ''This one is just drifting towards a dull conclusion - but United fans enthused by the possibility of seeing the much-hyped Ravel Morrison.''</i>

Morrison has attracted headlines for the wrong reasons, but a lot is expected of him at United.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Fryers and Diouf off, Morrison and Michael Keane on.

The ball breaks to Pogba at the egde of the box, but his shot is well over the bar.

Aldershot look knackered. Which is not suprising and it must be quite draining being 3-0 down as well.

Berbatov controls the ball with his hand (like Van der Vaart against Arsenal) but nothing is given and he rolls to Owen who has a shot blocked.

Pogba tries a reverse pass to Diouf, but it rolls out of play.

Rankine almost closes down Amos as the ball is passed back to him, but that is as close as they have come to the United goal.

Now it's Hylton and Fabio. The Shots striker certainly gets around and Fabio clattered over the top of him.

Hylton and Pogba clash on the edge of the box, but no foul is given. Looked like Pogba might have brought him down there and would have been a good chance.

The long balls have been well marshaled by United tonight. Vidic has certainly helped with that and Aldershot have struggled to make an impact up front.

Owen loses the ball in midfield and Pogba's first effort is to bring down an Aldershot man. Quite a meaty tackle there.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Cleverley off, Pogba on.

Diouf still charging around, but he's not done much in the opposing half.

Berbatov charges forward and shows strength and power to get clear of his men. Good trick on the edge of the box and he has a shot, which is pretty tame after all the effort it took to get there.

Arsenal have now managed to come back and are leading 2-1 against Bolton now thanks to Arshavin and Park.

Valencia pressed into defence as Rankine looks dangerous. Corner and Vidic forced to clear.

Owen and Diouf combine well. Berbatov tries to break into the box and is asking for a penalty as it skips up and hits Morris. No deal.

Fabio felled by Hylton. That's some tracking back from the striker, but United can now deliver from near to the byline.

Amos gets his hands on the ball and that could be one of the few times that happens this half.

<i>Mark Lomas: "We're going to win 6-3" inevitably begins, but I get the feeling Aldershot won't be doing a Southampton.</i>

Another top tackle from Vincenti. He's looked tough to beat, but not made quite the impact that he would have wanted.

He just gave himself some room and hammered it from 25 yards out into the top corner. Worner had no chance and it looks like another easy win for United in the competition.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Valencia hammers the third. Great hit, no backlift, what a goal.

In other games there's a shock as Bolton have taken the lead against Arsenal. United controlling things here.

Good pressure from McGlashan already.. if the Shots can keep up that intensity then they have a chance.

<b>KICK-OFF</b>. Aldershot begin the second half

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Rodman off, Bubb on. An injury, rather than tactical.

Let me know what you think of the game so far on Twitter <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/joncarterESPN" target="_blank">@joncarterespn</a>

<b>HALF-TIME</b>. United go into the break in full control. One or two moments have given them a scare, but Berbatov and Owen keep them 2-0 ahead and it's a long way back for the underdogs.

United running down the clock. Aldershot will need to regroup and come out fighting if they are to have any hope of turning this around.

Diouf has a go after the cross from Valencia, but it comes off Morris and bounces harmlessly in front of Worner.

Two minutes of added time...

Great play from United again, little one-twos and Berbatov at the centre of it again. His final ball is lacking though.

United's dominance has been obvious, but tellingly they have scored twice when the Shots looked like they might mount a challenge of their own.

That's rather ended Aldershot's hopes now. They look a bit flat, but it's not for lack of effort from the players so far.

Easy really. Aldershot's midfield is tired and nobody followed Owen's run. Berbatov's nice ball across was waiting to be hit and it went through Worner on the line.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Owen now! Berbatov does well, knocks it across and Owen is there as nobody tracked his run.

Berbatov out to Valencia, he flicks to Owen who then loses the ball and McGlashan is looking to break again.

Hylton almost got away there as the ball broke, but instead the official flagged for offside.

Rankine gets away on the back post and his header hits Berbatov - on the hand? No... Ref doesn't give it.

Rodman up the other end smashes a shot that bounces up off Fryers' boot. Looping, it looks for a second like it might drop in, but goes harmlessly over the bar.

Valencia takes on his man and stands a cross up to the back post. Diouf gets his head on it, but mistimes the headers and it bobbles over.

Vincenti has a go from 30 yards out. He strikes it well, but drags his foot across the ball so it flies wide. Aldershot need more of him on the ball.

Berbatov heads over, but never looked like getting that on target.

<i>Mark Lomas: ''Vidic has surely seen the ball more than any other player on the pitch, Aldershot basically playing a 4-6-0 formation with no-one pressing United's defence.''</i>

Fabio cuts inside but loses out. It's not long before United are back in possession though and they have looked calm and comfortable with the ball.

Jones tries to get a ball in, but it's far too close to Worner and United have just struggled a little to put the ball in the box.

Berba unhappy with Diouf again for not making a good run. Cleverley tries to overcomplicate things and loses out.

The chipped cross comes in and Rankine climbs over Fabio. His header skims away and doesn't trouble Amos.

Aldershot break and Rankine is down the right, his cross is blocked and it's a corner. They do look worthy of doing something on the break.

McGlashan, the most dangerous player so far, runs at Fryers and hammers a shot in from a narrow angle. It's not far over Amos' bar.

Berbatov flies into the challenge down the left and glares at Diouf for losing the ball. He does love a tackle as it turns out.

Seven United corners so far and here's another. Cleared at the near post.

<i>Mark Lomas: ''Set-pieces are surely Aldershot's best chance, but there were nine United outfield players in their own box for that free-kick, compared to just five for the Shots.''</i>

Rankine and Berbatov clashing in the box, but United's striker does enough to hold off his man. Must have enjoyed his spell at CB against Leeds.

Hylton is away and running with the ball, but Cleverley chops him down. Cynical again from United, but the midfielder stays out of the book.

Berbatov saves the ball from going out and his header is back across goal. Straker gets it clear before Cleverley arrived.

Owen inside the box, twists and slots it to Fabio. Straker fails to deal with it and the defender blasts the shot just past the post. It got a slight deflection.

McGlashan does well and gets away, but probably should have had a foul as Diouf tracked his run.

Looking lively, is the Bulgarian, which is something in itself.

Great run from Berbatov and he is hacked down in the box from behind. He wanted a penalty, but the ref thought otherwise.

Goalkeeper Worner dashes out to get there ahead of Diouf. You feel it could be a busy night for him.

Aldershot on the back foot now. The goal has stunned them and Morris forced to hack clear.

<i>Mark Lomas: ''Silence at The Ebb Stadium and "too easy" seems to be the consensus among the fans around here. United sliced through the defence like they weren't there.''</i>

Berbatov, remember, was the Premier League's top scorer last season. Not seen much of him in this campaign, but he's still got the finishing touch.

Diouf took it and Cleverley slipped it into Park's path. He cut back and Berbatov slotted home with ease.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Berbatov finishes off a flowing passing move.

Owen runs onto a good flicked ball from Valencia, but Morris comes across and makes sure that the danger passes.

Vidic and Jones let the ball go out, but Vidic looks tired already. His head is down and he looks a little unhappy.

The noise is impressive for such a small stadium... Aldershot are really up for this.

United probe down the right again and it's cleared from under the bar. That seems to be the best hope for United so far... Vidic and Jones exchanging words, so something is up.

Vidic is there to head clear from the resulting free-kick. The home side have looked pretty dangerous on the break so far; more so than United.

A cynical tackle, but one that stopped the Shots advancing.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Vidic with a shocking tackle as Rodman got away. He could have been through.

Fabio whips a cross in, but it was well dealt with by Herd. Not seen much of Berbatov yet.

McGlashan looking a little dangerous down the right, especially against the young Fryers who is playing at LB.

Cleverely has a shot from a way out and it sails over the bar.

Valencia and Park trying to link up but there are a ton of Aldershot players behind the ball.

United have struggled to assert themselves so far, although do look pretty comfortable in possession.

Park loses out to Hylton in the middle and suddenly there's some space. Jones just gets his foot back before the striker could break away.

Great long ball from Vidic, but Valencia can't get it across and he should have done better with that.

Good tackle back by Vincenti, on Diouf. Bit of passion from the underdogs.

Hylton breaks up the United possession and giant roar goes up as he runs at defence. McGlashan runs at Fryers but it goes out.

<b>KICK-OFF</b>. United get us underway

United fans will be pleased to see Cleverley back, as Anderson had a torrid time against City. Vidic, too, as young Zeki Fryers will need some guidance.

<i>Mark Lomas at Aldershot: ''Aldershot fans in the ground talking up this season's top scorer Danny Hylton. Optimistic ones fancy him to get hat-trick in a 3-1 win. Hmmm...''</i>

This is the first time that Aldershot have been past the 1st Round of the competition, so they will certainly be up for it.

Luke Guttridge is one to watch after a good season last year and the Shots also have a Panther on the bench. He'll be looking to pounce.

The EBB Stadium is surely close to its full capacity of 7,100 and Mark Lomas is there for us. Watch out for some insight from him later on.

ESPNsoccernet reader Aaron says: ''United need to make a statement. I'm talking a 10-0 statement.'' And he might be right after their hammering by City.

Journeyman striker Dean Holdsworth is the Shots' manager now. And said: ''We've had a fantastic run and we've earned it. We've worked tirelessly behind the scenes and we hope to do ourselves proud on the evening. It's a big boost for us financially.''

Hylton is the big threat and has scored 10 goals in all competitions already this season.

Aldershot's side lines up like this: Worner, Herd, Jones, Morris, Straker, Guttridge, Vincenti, Hylton, McGlashan, Rodman, Rankine

It's an interesting lineup again from United. Berbatov and Owen get their chances and Vidic and Cleverley are back after injury.
