Celtic against Juventus

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Vucinic comes off minutes after his goal. Anelka on in his wake for a Juve début.

Juve have had three attacks of menace and scored three times. Football can be cruel some times.

Wanyama at fault after losing the ball, Marchisio slides it to Vucinic who strokes past Forster. Harsh, harsh, harsh on Celtic.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Vucinic puts the tie beyond Celtic with a poke underneath Forster.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Paul Pogba on for Matri as Juve makes a change as well.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Brown off, Beram Kayal on.

Now that has knocked the stuffing out of Celtic's players and crowd. No goal scored in the next ten minutes means tie over.

That is cruel on Celtic. Marchisio runs onto a lovely flick from Matri and cuts inside before firing past Forster. Superb goal.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Marchisio grabs a vital second for Juve!

As the corner comes in Padoin has both arms round Brown but again no action from the referee. Buffon claims again.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Brown and Padoin the latest to be booked for grappling.

Izaguirre wins another corner.

Great covering from Wilson as Vidal looked for Vucinic.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Commons goes off and Tony Watt - the Barca slayer - is on.

Ambrose has taken over wrestling duties from Hooper, who got a shove from Lichsteiner just before the corner came in. Buffon claims the latest one.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Padoin is indeed one for Peluso. Corner still to come.

A long throw bring a corner. Peluso goes down. Padoin is being readied.

The crowd getting a little restless now and Celtic just starting to ray a little. They've put in one heck of an effort already.

Controversy as Wilson blocks from Marchisio as a cross from the left found him unmarked 16 yards out. Vital intervention.

Excellent run from Matthews, fully 60 yards to the byline but Brown can't grab his cross. Juve break.

Celtic are bossing the second half as well. Surely they must get something for such a strong performance?

Now Brown is free at the back post and is found by Mulgrew - his fierce low cross is hooked clear by Barzagli.

What a chance! Mulgrew crosses and Ambrose is six yards out with the goal at his mercy and he nods right at Buffon! Was that the moment?

Mulgrew and Izaguirre with a lovely piece of close control and Celtic win a corner.

Rod Stewart in the crowd - as ever. No tears in sight yet.

Lichtsteiner's cross finds Matri offside, but only just.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Lustig is the one who in injured. Matthews a straight replacement at right back.

Lustig wraps in another superb cross and Forrest takes a tumble claiming a push but that was optimistic.

A collective groan as Brown's pass goes out of play. Adam Matthews is stripping. On the bench I might add.

Poor from Commons - a high ball up for Forrest who isn't exactly blessed in the height department.

Game far more stretched in the second half.

Celtic Park getting a little edgy now. No, make that furious as they are denied a free kick right on the edge of the box as Izaguirre takes a tumble.

A good run from Mulgrew is let down by a poor return pass to him from Hooper.

Commons fouled, this time by Bonucci. Ooof.

Juve haven't been good in possession tonight, not by their standards. Can Celtic keep up this intense level of pressing for 90 minutes?

A right tangle in the box again as Commons wins a header and Forrest can't connect with a volley. Then Hooper is cleaned out by Buffon.

Mulgrew swings in a free kick but Lustig's header flicks the ball wide of the target.

We begin again.....

A stat (look away if you are a Celtic fan): Juve have never lost a UCL match they led at the break (44 matches). Celtic have lost all 10 in which they trailed at HT

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2013/0212/alessandromatriscoresvceltic20130212_275x155.jpg"><br>Alessandro Matri beats Fraser Forster to give Juventus the lead at Celtic

PSG are well set in the other tie, two goals to the good and prompting the Mestalla to turn on their own team. <a href="http://espnfc.com/uk/en/gamecast/358631/gamecast.html?soccernet=true&cc=5739" target="_blank">James Dall has coverage of that match here</a>.

A very testy half indeed and Celtic playing ever so well. Undone by a regulation attack, they must at least go to Italy level with their illustrious opponents you feel.

<b>HALF TIME</b> More ridiculousness from Hooper and Lichtsteiner but a short Celtic corner nearly pays off as Forrest's shot is blocked inadvertently by Wanyama. Then after some more moaning at the ref, he blows for the break. A good game.

Vidal is free on the box's edge again from a corner - his shot is blocked then Forster saves Lichtsteiner's follow up effort.

Pastore has made it 2-0 to PSG in Valencia.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Forrest now booked for a late tackle on Pirlo. No respect for the veteran tonight.

Hooper is penalised for striving to reach a Lustig cross. Probably the right call.

Yet another effort from Commons as he swivels on the edge of the area but it is right at Buffon again.

Juve not as crisp in possession as they might be in the face of Celtic's pressing. Vucinic loses it this time.

That card has made absolutely no difference to either player - if anything, they've got worse. Lichtsteiner is dicing with death there.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> The referee has seen enough of Hooper and Lichtsteiner's antics and books them both as Celtic prepare to take a corner.

Fantastic cross from Lustig and Forrest can't quite manage to control the ball well enough to get a shot off.

Wanyama is penalised, rather harshly, after Vidal bundled into him.

Ambrose in strongly on Vucinic. Looked worse than it was.

Commons tries a curler after Pirlo lost the ball, now Izaguirre rails at the ref as he pulls play back for Celtic free kick when they had possession.

Vidal has gone down clutching his leg after challenging with Ambrose for the ball.

A terrible short corner from Juve as Vidal can't get anywhere near Vucinic's pass. Do short corners ever work?

Juve are sitting very deep whenever Celtic advance - basically on the edge of their own penalty area.

So close from Commons, he flicks a cross on goal over his shoulder and the ball fizzes a yard wide of the post with Buffon playing statues.

Word from Juventus that UEFA has officially awarded the goal to Matri.

Pirlo is angry now and playing beautifully, streaking out of defence and playing a delicious ball to Vucinic who beats Forster but takes the ball wide before his cross is deflected and cleared.

Pirlo takes revenge on Brown with a little knee after they've gone in for the ball. As Celtic go forward, Wanyama wastes good possession with a wild long shot.

Brown is right on Pirlo as he gets the ball, bundling the veteran to the floor, brining a typically Italian reaction from his opponent.

Another effort from Commons but this one, on his weaker right foot, is easy for Buffon to deal with.

Just seeing a replay of the goal - it is definitely over the line from Matri, as to whether the official had awarded the goal then or after Marchisio's follow up I'm not sure,

Better from Juve but Wanyama putting pressure on Matri but again the visitors look menacing whenever they get ball to feet in Celtic's half.

Celtic still penning Juve in but the Italians retain a potency on the break that will worry Neil Lennon.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2013/0212/juventusgroupcelebopenervcfc20130212_275x155.jpg"><br>Juve celebrate their early goal

Commons wins a free kick and takes it, Forrest takes it down at the back post instead of hitting it and the chance is lost. Should have taken a punt on having a punt.

Super chance for Commons and a player of his quality should do better. He steamed onto Izaguirre's cross but couldn't judge the bounce correctly.

Hooper is certainly putting himself about. He wins a foul off Caceres by the half way line.

The ref gets a loud cheer as he awards Wanyama a free kick.

Early goal in tonight's other game too - Lavezzi has put PSG one up at Valencia with an absolute stormer.

Izaguirre wins a corner and now Hooper and Lichtsteiner get a talking to from the ref for some more argy bargy.

Good save from Buffon as Commons fires in a low shot after Mulgrew's cross was cleared right to him. A bit more power and it was in.

Mulgrew fires a shot wide of the near post after advancing to the edge of the box. Still plenty of promise here for Celtic.

It should be two. Marchisio ghosts into the back post to meet Peluso's cross and he should score. Ambrose again struggling to deal with a long ball.

Despite the defensive lapse it's been a bright start from Celtic. Juve penned in a little.

Good effort from Wanyama, again, this time a low fizzer but Buffon is right behind him. Before that Celtic wanted a penalty as Peluso stuck a forearm into the back of Commons' head.

That will take a breath of wind out of Celtic's sails, and the crowd have quietened a little. Poor defending.

Oh dear Celtic, a long ball is missed by Ambrose, Matri pokes it through Forster and the ball crosses the line, before Marchisio polishes off. Nightmare for the home side, vital away goal for Juve.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Marchisio scores for Juve!

Lichtsteiner and Hooper had a WWE encounter from the corner. Dangerous from the Juve man.

A good spell of Celtic possession ends with a speculative Wanyama shot that Buffon spills behind for a corner rather unconvincingly.

<b>KICK OFF</b>

There probably isn't an atmosphere like Celtic Park in full thrust, but is that likely to phase Pirlo and company? I doubt it. The teams are about to emerge from the tunnel. Here. We. Go.

A lung-bursting version of "You'll Never Walk Alone," in progress. Scarves everywhere. Spine tingling stuff.

Celtic finished second in Group G, behind Barcelona, who they beat at Parkhead of course. They won three games, drew one and lost two, scoring nine and conceding eight.

Let's have a cheeky little recap of both sides' UCL form to date. Juve qualified top from a tricky group, above Chelsea in third and Shakhtar in second. They won three and drew three, scoring 12 and conceding four in the process.

Heavy noise in the stadium already and a decent racket coming from the travelling supporters, but unless the black and whites race into an early lead, I'll wager you'll barely hear them when the Hoops fans get going.

So, the top team from Italy takes on the top dogs in Scotland. Celtic enjoy an 18-point lead over second placed Inverness CT while the Old Lady are currently five ahead of Napoli.

Three changes for Juve as Bonucci, Caceres and the evergreen Pirlo return. Nicolas Anelka is on the bench.

The team news is in and there is good and bad news for Celtic: Efe Ambrose is back from the African Nations Cup to start in defence but Georgios Samaras is injured and misses out.

Can lightning strike twice? Can Juventus be slayed as Barcelona were a few months ago? It's a tall order for Celtic, for sure. Perhaps most importantly for Neil Lennon tonight will be a clean sheet, and not necessarily a win.
