Manchester United against Schalke 04

Raul claims a corner off Anderson, and gets it. Van der Sar grabs his corner at the near post.

Uchida's cross is cleared behind by Evans, who slipped at the moment of impact.

Another goal ruled out by the flag, Edu's shot is parried superbly by Van der Sar, and though Huntelaar hammers home the rebound, it won't count.

It's 6-1 on aggregate. Not a scoreline you often see in the Champions League semi-final.

Van der Sar has to charge out of his goal to prevent Huntelaar getting on the end of a long ball, then Edu's shot is deflected behind.

Owen nearly gets through on goal but the eagle-eyed linesman on the far side sticks his flag up.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Great ball from Valencia to set Berbatov away and a nice run from the Bulgarian too. That is Berbatov's last involvement, as Michael Owen comes on.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Anderson again! It's a rout. Berbatov is sprung through and unselfishly squares for the midfielder to tap in.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Matip comes on for Farfan.

"We're going to Wembley," sing the United fans. They certainly are.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Darren Fletcher came on for Scholes in the aftermath of the third goal.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Anderson rounds it off for United! A nice burst from Nani, he pulls the ball back to Anderson, his initial shot is blocked but he is up quickly to fire past Neuer.

Smalling has the ball in the net but he was offside. O'Shea's ball came across and faced with an open goal, Smalling very nearly missed. Flag was up though.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Here comes Huntelaar, for Howedes. Schalke need to inject some urgency.

Pep looks knackered, watching on in the stands.

Not much happening at the minute, I'll be honest.

Another United break from Schalke's corner but Evra tries an odd cross when he was better off shooting from the edge of the box.

Edu wins a corner off Smalling, fortunately.

Decent ball from O'Shea, Berbatov brings it down and finds Gibson but his pass to Nani is ambitious, not to mention the offside element.

Jurado works some space outside the box and crosses but Farfan was offside.

I think Schalke have realised this is a task beyond their capabilities. Could be a long last half an hour.

A feeble effort from Anderson as he charges towards the edge of the box. The ball rather got caught beneath his feet.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Rafael looks like he's taken a little knock and Evra replaces him.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Escudero is carded for persistent fouling, after a trip on Scholes.

Draxler gets round the back after Rafael committed himslef when he didn't need to. He crosses but Evans is there before Edu.

Superb save from Neuer as Berbatov cuts the ball back for Anderson and his shot looks to be arrowing into the top corner until a fingertip save.

The corner is deep and nodded goalwards by Berbatov and Nani is flagged offside as he tries to turn it home.

Neat one-two between Anderson and O'Shea but the Irishman's cross is too strong for Berbatov and underhit for Valencia.

Edu is a touch heavy handed with Rafael and is penalised.

United break from the corner as Valencia runs from his own box into the other box to win a United corner.

Some good possession from Schalke in the final third leads to a chance for Raul inside the box, but he knocks it back for Farfan, who wasn't expecting it, and his shot is deflected behind for a corner.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0504/josejurado20110504_275x155.jpg"><br> Jurado finds the net.

Raul is now operating much deeper, with Edu up top. Not sure that's the way to go.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Edu has come on for Baumjohann for Schalke.

We begin again....

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0504/darrongibsonteamceleb20110504_275x155.jpg"><br> Darron Gibson toasts his goal, United's second.

Barring a major turnaround it will be United going through to face Barcelona, so why not check out <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/915106/guardiola-expects-different-man-united-test?cc=5739" target="_blank">Pep Guardiola's take</a> on the Wembley final against Fergie's men.

<b>HALF TIME</b> A comfortable half for Man Utd, vindicating Fergie's team selection. Goals from Valencia and Gibson have given them breathing space, while Schalke have looked a little toothless, despite playing much better than last week.

Some poor passing from both sides on the counter. Berbatov with a very lazy pass right to Howedes.

Scholes is enjoying himself now, spraying passes left and right. Rafael fouls Jurado now.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Anderson is the latest to get a card after sliding in. The referee doesn't like any sort of challenge it seems. Good job he wasn't officiating last night.

So, three unanswered goals for Schalke will do it.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0504/valenciaceleb20110504_275x155.jpg"><br> Valencia celebrates his opener.

Farfan's free kick hits the wall and is deflected for a corner, before Anderson clears.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Now Scholes is carded for some shenanigans in the wall. He's had more yellows in the Champions League than any other player. Surprise.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Gibson is carded for a lunge with his studs showing. As he complains the ref shouts "stop" in his face, which makes him stop protesting. Well played ref.

So nearly 3-1 as United work the ball into the area and Valencia is right in front of Neuer inside the box, he skips to the side and fires in a shot but Howedes had made his way onto the line and hoofs clear.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Jurado gets one back! Unconvincing defending from United, Smalling gives the ball away, Uchida crosses, the ball breaks and Juardo hammers it into the top corner.

Now Neuer goves Valencia a little shove after flapping at a corner. Not entirely sure why. Probably frustration after his mistake.

It was all far too easy as Anderson took a throw in, fed Valencia and his lay-off fell to Gibson. His shot was powerful but no way in the world it should have beaten Neuer. Poor.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Gibson seals it! Neuer drops a clanger as Gibson fires in a shot, and the keeper, off balance, palms it on to the post and into the net.

Schalke were the architects of their own downfall there, giving the ball away cheaply before Anderson fed Gibson, he slotted a great ball into Valencia and he found the net. A hammer blow for Schalke.

Raul gets a sight of goal right from kick off but the looping cross means he can't get much power on his header and Van der Sar saves.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Valencia scores! Game over! A superb through ball from Gibson and the winger makes no mistake, slotting under Neuer.

Smalling gets his head on the corner but catches it too full and loops the ball well over the bar.

Good interception from Gibson as he charges forward, commits tow men and feeds Berbatov. He finds Nani but his cross is blocked. Corner.

Can't really see what Guardiola will gain from watching United tonight. Surely only a few of this team will get a start at Wembley if they go through?

Neuer heads out to claim the corner.

Nani's free kick is terrible but Berbatov rescues it, gets into the area and tries another weak cross that is cut out for a corner.

Valencia buys a free kick from Draxler, wide right.

No real penetration from Schalke, though they are enjoying most of the possession.

Anderson's cross loops into the air off Uchida but though Berbatov makes a half-hearted attempt to challenge Neuer, the keeper has no trouble claiming.

Baumjohann looks for Raul inside the box but Van der Sar is out to claim. Still no sniff in front of goal for the former Real legend.

You can chalk a million off Neuer's fee after a flap at a Nani corner. He did get a little shove from Smalling to be fair to him though.

Schalke will be more than happy with their start in the game, no real chances for United and plenty of possession for the German side. If they can just nick a goal....

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2011/0504/pepguardiolawatches20110504_275x155.jpg"><br> See, told you.

A little cameo from Berbatov as he Cryuff turns away from Howedes before fluffing a simple cross to Valencia who was lurking six yards out.

Pep Guardiola is in the stands after guiding Barca into the final last night.

Gibson trots off without the need for a stretcher, he should be fine to continue.

He looks in pain, with a stretcher waiting to take him off. Darren Fletcher out warming up.

Gibson goes down after sliding in to tackle Farfan, getting a knee in his chest for his trouble.

That will give Schalke hope, especially after creating little last week.

First opening of the game for Schalke, as Farfan is afforded room to move into before he fires a dribbler of a shot two yards wide of the post.

As the corner breaks down Rafael retrieves possession and fires a good ball into Berbatov on the left edge of the box but the Bulgarian was a yard offside. No need to be either.

Superb work from Nani, who beats two players with two quick, elegant touches. He tries to cross and wins a corner.

Scholes is nearly caught in possession but the referee, Pedro Proença from Portugal, awards him a free kick.

Good noise early on from Schalke's fans. Home support slightly subdued, perhaps still digesting the team news.

Papadopoulos concedes a free kick and as Anderson tries to spread it wide, United win the corner.

Here comes the teams to a cracking atmosphere with John O'Shea leading out Man Utd as captain. We're all set.

Ferguson: "I've got to trust these young lads. I tossed and turned about it but I think I'm right. I hope I'm right."

Even though Van der Sar has only played eight games to Neuer's 11, he has conceded just two goals to Neuer's ten and kept six clean sheets, compared to Neuer's three.

Much talk centred on Schalke 'keeper Manuel Neuer after his brilliant performance in the first leg but Edwin Van der Sar beats him hands down in the head-to-head stats.

So, a huge gamble from Sir Alex, who clearly thinks the job is done. Yes he has a big game with Chelsea on Sunday, but he underestimates Schalke at his peril. Surely the Germans can't be as bad as they were in the first leg.

As for Schalke, Escudero, Draxler and Howedes come in with Edu, Matip and Sarpei out.

So, <b>in</b> come Rafael, Smalling, Evans, O'Shea, Scholes, Gibson, Anderson, Nani and Berbatov and <b>out</b> go Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Fabio, Giggs, Carrick, Park, Rooney and Hernandez.

It's all change for Manchester United as Sir Alex makes NINE changes from the team that won in Germany. The only survivors are Van der Sar and Valencia.
