What a chance for Gignac...

Remy takes Marseille forward but Evra tackles back.

Remember that all Marseille need now though is one goal and they will be going through on away goals.

In tonight's other game, Eto'o has put Inter level with Bayern on aggregate, with the Italians winning 1-0 in Germany.

What a start for United! They had certainly gone out with plenty intent and they've been rewarded. There's that "magic" that Ferguson was talking about.

United 1-0 Marseille. Giggs and Rooney combine well on the left and the latter flashes the ball across the six-yard box for Chicharito to tap it in.

GOAL Hernandez

Mandanda comes out and claims it, good hands by the Marseille goalkeeper.

Corner for United now after Giggs wins it. He will take it too, though the referee is having a word with Chicharito.

Lovely long ball from Giggs picks out Hernandez on the right. He brings it down and exchanges passes with Rooney - Nani found himself with space in the area but couldn't pick out a United shirt.

United now have the ball but O'Shea - at right-back today - is pressured into booting the ball long and out of play.

Remy looked particularly dangerous in the first leg, he was a standout player for l'OM.

Evra takes out Remy but the referee plays a good advantage.

O'Shea penalised for brinigning down Ayew inside the Marseille half.

Evra on the move early on for United and Rooney with a smart back heel to keep the home side in possession.

We're off at Old Trafford.

Marseille to kick off...

There's a minute's silence before the game as a mark of respect for the victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

The Champions League anthem plays and we're almost ready for action.

The players out on the pitch now, and there was a warm exchange between Gabriel Heinze and Ferguson in the tunnel. There love-in over the past few weeks has been a bit sickly at times!

Javier Hernandez starts up front for United - his only Champions League goal this year came in a 1-0 win in Valencia.

Just two weeks ago I was lucky enough to be at the Stade Velodrome watching the 0-0 draw in the first leg. It was a great night in terms of a Champions League matchday experience, though it was a pretty dire game of football. My not-so-complimentary thoughts on United's display can be found here.

Ferguson has just said that he "absolutely" plans to take the game to Marseille tonight, let's see if United's bite can match their manager's bark...

Marseille welcome back Andre-Pierre Gignac to spearhead their frontline and attempt to do what Dirk Kuyt managed against Brown and Smalling, while Benoit Cheyrou is also given a starting berth at Old Trafford.

Vidic is out for United so Chris Smalling and Wes Brown will be their central defensive partnership, while veteran duo Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes start in midfield, with Nani returning form injury and Chicharito continuing up front.
