Internazionale against Tottenham Hotspur

Hutton cuts inside and makes a chance for himself. The ball shoots away from him, but he can hit it with his left foot. A curling effort flies over.

Spurs want off the pitch as much as Inter do.

The Oles are going up around the ground as Spurs take control of the ball. But they are just running down the clock.

Bale whips in a free-kick, but Julio Cesar claims with ease.

Santon does really well, but his ball across is sliced clear. Bale on the charge again and Keane can't keep up with him when the pass comes.

Coutinho pops up again - I thought he was a little quiet - as he drills a shot in from 25 yards out. It just rises over the bar.

Ekotto slides the ball across to Bale. But that was good defending to cut out the cross and Spurs get a corner. Cleared by Lucio though.

Redknapp is likely to be happy just not to concede again and wants to give a rest to some of his players. No doubt that's why Modric was hauled off early on.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Huddlestone off, Palacios on. Not exactly attacking.

This has the look of a training exercise again.

There are an awful lot of Inter players between Spurs' attacking players and the goal. Lennon tries to break through, but Crouch is not there anymore.

Cordoba is slotting into defence, so it's now a 5-4-1.

Biabiany looks a good young talent. It's easy to see why the club were able to let Balotelli go.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Biabiany off, Cordoba on. Inter look to shut up shop.

Jenas ignores a good run by Keane, but Spurs' full-backs are not getting forward as much as they should be doing if they want to get back into the game.

Julio Cesar gets a kick, but he hasn't had a save to make.

Eto'o runs at the defence, but that is a wonderful tackle back by Jenas who showed great timing to hook the ball away and under control.

It really is hard to think what Spurs can do. The game is just petering out...

Inter just knocking it around again and keeping possession well. They've hit twice as many passes as Spurs so far.

Eto'o and Coutinho linking with one-touch play on the egde of the box again. Coutinho gets a shot off, but it doesn't trouble Cudicini.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Crouch off, Robbie Keane (a former Inter player) comes on.

Bale's ball to Ekotto is cut out, but the ball somehow manages to find him again and Crouch is in the middle. He's beaten to the cross.

Haven't seen much of Crouch recently. He's looking very tired and there's not much attacking impetus from Spurs anyway.

Maicon finds space down the right, Coutinho at the centre of things again, but the ball is overhit. He's always looking to penetrate the defence.

Coutinho makes space for himself, Bassong stands off him and he curls a shot just wide. The kid only made his Inter debut four games ago. One to watch for sure!

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Chivu off, Pandev on. Santon will drop to left-back.

Gallas, for once, manages to keep pace with Eto'o.

Ekotto finds himself in a position to shoot after more good work from Bale, but he balloons his effort way over the bar.

Coutinho with another super pass. Great vision. He's looking to split the defence, but Maicon just can't latch on to the ball.

Gallas and Bassong get in a tangle again and Hutton is forced to get involved to get the ball clear.

Inter aren't done yet. Sneijder powers forward and links well with Eto'o. He's into the box but Bassong makes up for some poor play from Gallas.

Crouch nearly gifts Eto'o a chance, but Jenas breaks down the left, only to overrun the ball with Bale in support.

Great save from Cudicini. Santon picks it up and cuts inside, driving his shot low to the near post. The keeper tips it around the post.

The ball breaks to Bale on the egde of the box and its blocked. That could have been interesting.

Could that be Spurs' way back into the gane? The Spurs fans are singing: 'We're going to win 5-4!'

He left Maicon for dead on the halfway line, powered his way into the box and what a finish!

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Wow! What a counter attack. Gareth Bale charges down the left and hammers a left foot shot low into the bottom corner.

As you may imagine, all the pace has gone out of the game, except for the odd counter attack. Inter are in no rush.

A full-back by trade, he's going to play in an advanced role.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Stankovic off, Santon on.

Spurs controlling the ball, but Lennon's cross finds noone. Coutinho at the heart of Inter's break again and his ball forward only just fails to find Eto'o.

No sign of a sub yet, so it's ten on ten.

Stankovic is off, throwing his boots angrily off the pitch. He's struggling with injury, looks to be his ankle.

Inter are pushing ahead and they still want more goals. Crouch is already dropping deep.

<b>Kick-off</b>. Inter start the second half.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/images/2010/1020/heurelhogomesoff20101020_275x155.jpg">Gomes is given his marching orders.

<b>HALF-TIME</b>. Spurs have been taken apart. It all happened in the first 15 mins and from then on it was a stroll. Gomes' sending off means Spurs are facing a real struggle not to concede more.

Coutinho sums it up. He's run down the left and makes Hutton look like a fool. Twisting and turning, he gets a shot away, but it hits the side netting.

One minute of added time.

You don't want to let Maicon hit those! Spurs were so static in getting out to block his efforts.

Maicon has two shots! The ball flies over and he hits it from a tight angle, Cudicini blocks it right back to him. So he has another go, harder this time, and the keeper palms it away again.

Biabiany and Coutinho combine so well. Just outside the box Coutinho gets the ball back and fires a shot off. Cudicini drops it, but dives to gather.

Inter holding possession very well and just waiting for half-time. They really are strolling.

Crouch wants the ball, but Bale scoops it over his head and it runs through to Julio Cesar.

Eto'o is finding himself alone against either Gallas or Bassong. It's all too easy for the striker.

Bale gets past Maicon and heads down the byline. He does really well, but his cross is cut out by Chivu in the box.

Coutinho pulling the strings and he slips a ball through to Eto'o again. Just overhit this time. He looks a quality player.

<i>Comment from MDS in Italy</i>: ''We could be into double figures by the end of the night. Tottenham need to get Aaron Lennon to attack the booked Chivu if they are to stand a chance. But in this mood, Inter look unstoppable.''

Eto'o recent record at the San Siro by the way? 10 goals in 6 games.

Bale swings a free-kick in and it finds Crouch, who can't direct the header anywhere useful.

Spurs tried to play offside and Gallas was caught out. Not the time to play like that when you're already 3-0 down.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Eto'o again! Coutinho slips the ball through a static defence and he slides it through Cudicini and into the net.

Inter fly forward and Coutinho lets it run through his legs. Hutton does well to get in the way as Sneijder crashes a shot against him.

Spurs now trying to build an attack with Jenas down the left, but he wasn't able to unload the ball to Bale. Now they need to get back.

Coutinho almost slips the ball through to Stankovic, who is getting forward at every chance.

Maicon wastes a chance to cross. Not sure Eto'o was in place anyway, as Inter aren't the most aerially threatening.

Biabiany and Coutinho, the kids on the wing, are really impressing. Looking very solid on the ball and they have some excellent skills.

Crouch is looking tired already. He really is ploughing a lone furrow.

Redknapp wants his men to get closer to the Inter players. They could have used that advice about 20 mins ago.

Oh dear. The tallest man on the pitch... with a header... inches out. And he messes it up. Very poor. And Harry Redknapp is not a happy man.

Lennon does really well. He works room despite the double team and gets a cross in. Crouch has a free header four yards out - and misses! That was a great chance.

But the wall does its job and Stankovic's volley flies over again. He fancies a goal for sure.

Sneijder lines it up...

Jenas slides in on Coutinho and the ref blows for a foul. Looked like he might get a yellow, but no card is produced.

Stankovic tries an acrobatic volley and Cudicini is forced to push it away. Spurs are so static from set plays.

Bassong stands firm against Eto'o, but he has not been convincing.

Jenas spins away from Stankovic and hits a horrible shot that Crouch almost controls. The big lad goes down in the box and reckons he was fouled by Chivu - he wasn't.

Possession stats will be interesting at the end of the game. Inter are camped inside the Spurs final third.

Sneijder slides it to Eto'o who has somehow found space down the left flank. He hits it, but gets underneath it and it flies over.

Sneijder and Eto'o combining nicely on the edge of the box. They will get a lot of chances in that area by the looks of things.

Of course Spurs haven't kept a clean sheet for 13 games. So it doesn't look like they have much hope now.

Inter haven't conceded a goal in their last three games by the way...

Lennon floats a ball to Crouch, but it's too long and the striker handballs it when he controls.

Some hope then. Lennon needs to get the ball a lot now and run at his man. The defender has a fiery streak and could even the numbers.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/yellow_card.jpg" height="15"> Chivu slides in late on Lennon.

Well this is a training exercise now. Spurs all behind the ball. Coutinho hammers a shot, but Bassong gets there.

<i>Comment from MDS in Italy</i>: ''Catastrophic start for Spurs. 3 down after 13 minutes, goalkeeper sent off, star player substituted and all at sea against the european champions. Tottenham don't have a prayer.''

''Has there ever been a worse opening in the Champions League?'' someone asks in the office. Doubtful.

A great set of passing and it falls to Stankovic in the middle. Bassong and Huddlestone fail to clear, the midfielder waits and fires a great low shot into the net.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> Stankovic fires Inter ahead by another.

Spurs sitting back and just trying to get hold of the ball. Inter will keep it away from them all night long.

Spurs were playing 4-1-4-1 and now it's 4-4-1. Crouch is in for a tough night now. As Inter press on.

Incredible stuff!

Memories of Young Boys? Spurs are two down inside ten minutes and surely that's game over for the ten men?

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> And Eto'o scores. To the keeper's right. 2-0!

Well that's a shock, the creative talent Modric is sacrificed. Eto'o will take the kick...

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/subs.gif"> Cudicini on, Modric off.

Biabiany just got away from Ekotto and it was a great ball from Sneijder. Gomes is still not leaving the pitch...

There was a delay there as the ref talked to his assistant. But it's red!

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/red_card.jpg" height="15"> Gomes is off. He took the player and missed the ball.

<B>PENALTY!</B> What an awful start. Biabiany is through and Gomes brings him down!

Lennon runs at Chivu and does well, he drags it back and it's heading to Modric. But Stankovic makes the sliding tackle in the box before it reaches him.

Biabiany has it on the right and looks very impressive on the ball. A kid, but a lively one.

Crouch looks very lonely up front. Modric is the man who needs to get close to him, but he's sitting back.

Spurs get forward now and Bale has it on the left. His right footed cross sails over the head of Crouch.

Now they have an uphill struggle.

A very nice goal, but too many Spurs players were caught cold.

That was impressive. Coutinho cut inside, Eto'o popped it across to Zanetti who was charging up the left and he curled it home.

<img src="http://soccernet-assets.espn.go.com/design05/gp10/i/goal.gif"> <b>GOAL</b> What a start! Zanetti curls the ball home after a wonderful move.

Lucio already showing some attacking ambition. Ever see a centre-back try to take on players down the wing? Well, he is Brazilian.

Ready for kick-off? Here we go, Spurs get us underway.

And the first is to say: ''I should have brought gloves, not easy to type right now!'' So Spurs will be a little nippy as well.

Mike Da Silva is at the San Siro tonight and will be giving us his thoughts throughout the game. As well as at full-time.

Incidently, what on earth was Rafa on about <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=833732&sec=england&cc=5739" target="_blank">with his 'white liquid'</a> nonsense? Not the best preparations for a tough game.

Peter Crouch <a href="http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=834098&sec=uefachampionsleague&cc=5739" target="_blank">has a point to prove</a> to Rafa Benitez.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Bale against Maicon down the flank - that should be an incredible battle.

Well, this is the benchmark for Spurs. This will show how good they are and whether they can really go far in this competition.

No Rafael van der Vaart for Spurs, which is a big miss, while Diego Milito is missing for Inter.

Two good attacks there, but the difference may come in defence. Lucio, Maicon, Chivu and Samuel against Hutton, Gallas, Bassong and Assou-Ekotto...

Inter have a similar shape, with kids Coutinho and Biabiany on the wings. Eto'o, the man in form, is up front. Sneijder, Stankovic and Zanetti in the middle.

Some team news for you. Bale and Lennon will provide the width for Spurs, with Huddlestone, Jenas and Modric in the middle. Big Pete up front.
