Internazionale against Chelsea

Chelsea are enjoying a lot of the ball but they are facing two banks of four Inter players and it will be a real task to find a way through.

Muntari comes on for Dejan Stankovic and will add steel to the Inter midfield.

Inter are now getting Sulley Muntari ready, perhaps in an effort to protect their lead ahead of the second leg.

Ivanovic whips in a dangerous cross from the right and, under pressure from Lampard, Cesar comes to punch clear. In the next phase of play, Zanetti produces a vital header to clear.

Maicon gets a telling off after clattering into Sturridge, and rightly so. It was a messy challenge.

Sturridge does come on and he replaces Kalou in the Chelsea attack.

Kalou and Lucio knock into each other and the Ivorian's leg connects with the Brazilian's nether regions as Lucio goes to ground. Ouch.

Chelsea are readying Daniel Sturridge on the sidelines. What an occasion this is for the young man.

Maicon sees the pitch open up in front of him and typically rifles one in on goal, but his shot flies well, well over the bar.

Kalou looks to slip in Lampard but it is Lucio, again, who intervenes with a block. Lampard appeared to be offside in any case.

Lucio looks to be pain for Inter as the home side defend a corner. Lampard swings the ball in and it is Lucio who eventually clears.

Balotelli does superbly to get away from his marker and cuts back to Cambiasso, who sees his effort blocked well by Ivanovic. Chelsea were creaking there.

This tie is neatly poised at 2-1, meaning Chelsea will surely push forward in search of a second. But with Hilario in goal, Inter must surely scent blood.

Inter make a second change with Eto'o being replaced by Goran Pandev. He is a more natural wide player so that makes sense.

Initial reports on the Cesc situation are not good, with Chelsea fearing a possible cruciate ligament injury. That could be Cech out for the season.

A lovely flowing move from Chelsea ends with Lampard forcing Cesar into a sprawling save. Excellent stuff from the visitors.

Samuel Eto'o decides against squaring for Balotelli and instead drags one wide. A bad choice and an even worse attempt.

Ivanovic is penalised for a hefty challenge from behind on Eto'o but he escapes a booking having got a decent chunk of the ball.

Cech is carried off the pitch on a stretcher and replays show he signalled to be removed straight away after claiming a cross. This looks very bad for the Chelsea man. Hilario comes on in his place.

Both Balotelli and Cech are down injured following seperate incidents, and it doesn't look good for the Chelsea 'keeper and he will be coming off. What a blow for Chelsea.

Balotelli is indeed handed the brief of unsettling Malouda, with Eto'o out left and Milito through the middle. Adventurous stuff from the Inter boss.

Here is the substitution as Balotelli replaces Thiago Motta, and that is a decidedly attacking change. A gamble from Mourinho?

Inter are readying Mario Balotelli on the sidelines, will he come on to test Malouda?

The Argentinian saw his initial shot blocked but followed up with a searing effort that flew across Cech and left the 'keeper with no chance. Wow.

GOAL! Esteban Cambiasso puts Inter back into the lead. That's what they have in terms of a response then.

So what do Inter have in terms of a response now then? They really need to go on the offensive as a 1-1 scoreline doesn't leave them in a great position ahead of the second leg.

Watching the replay, Julio Cesar should have done a lot, lot better with that effort as it slipped through his fingers. Has his pre-match car crash affected him there?

GOAL FOR CHELSEA! A lovely finish from Kalou as he strokes the ball into the back of the net from 20 yards after a storming run from Branislav Ivanovic.

It has been a scrappy start to the second half for both teams as Sneijder looks to fnid Milito with a through ball. He was only the three yards offside.

Malouda continues to play in a very advanced position but sees another attempted cross blocked. If the Frenchman continues to drift forward, Chelsea could be in trouble.

Malouda dinks the ball into the box and finds Didier Drogba, but he cannot direct the ball on target with his head.

KICK OFF

Righty ho, we are just about ready to go again. By the way, Chelsea had 13 shots in the first half and Inter just three.

We will be back in 15 minutes. Let's see if Chelsea can respond to that particular injustice. What with Mr Ovrebro last season, they haven't had the best of luck in this competition of late.

That's half-time and the replay does not make pretty viewing for Chelsea. A clear, clear penalty as Samuel trips Kalou and, judging by his reaction, the defender thought he had conceded a spot-kick, only to be handed a reprieve by the ref. Terrible decision.

HUGE SHOUT FOR A PENALTY! Kalou is clearly brought down by Samuel but nothing is given!

Just the one added minute at San Siro.

From all of 35 yards, Wesley Sneijder drills a free kick high over the bar. Mourinho might have told Inter that Cech is not what he used to be, but that was just crazy.

Samuel Eto'o just strays offside when attempting to control a cross from Maicon and Chelsea breathe a sigh of relief.

Branislav Ivanovic does well to win a corner off Javier Zanetti. It is Lampard with the delivery and Ivanovic is sent sprawling in the box after seemingly being pushed in the back, nothing given though.

Maicon plays a clever one-two with Milito but his second touch is heavy, allowing Cech to race off his line and collect the ball. Chelsea were almost opened up there.

Kalou does well to get his head to a fierce cross but given the pace on the ball, cannot hit the target. It's another chance for Chelsea though.

Diego Milito controls a ball over the top from Maicon beautifully but Carvalho is across quickly to deal with the danger.

Samuel Eto'o wastes a glorious chance for Inter! Sneijder picked out the striker with a square pass and the striker, eight yards out, swung his boot at the ball and missed. Chelsea off the hook.

Frank Lampard attempts a frankly ridiculous effort from long range that flies well, well wide.

Chelsea are enjoying the better of possession but Inter have plenty of players back to meet every wave of Chelsea attack. Parking the bus, Jose?

Drogba beats Maicon to a deep cross but the angle is too acute and he cannot trouble Cesar.

Mikel lines one up from 30 yards and it is well hit by the Nigerian, but poses Julio Cesar few problems as he catches the ball.

Kalou forces Lucio into a challenge and the young Ivorian is looking dangerous. Maybe he can exploit the attacking tendencies of the Inter right back, Maicon.

Kalou is given offside when chasing a ball over the top from Ballack but it looks a harsh decision.

Chelsea threaten again as Mikel chips a ball into Drogba and the striker spins on his toe and volleys wide. Great technique, but the execution wasn't quite there.

Salomon Kalou follows Milito into the book when chopping down Sneijder with a loose challenge.

Diego Milito is shown a yellow card for diving in the box. Replays show it was a horrible bit of 'simulation', Carvalho's leg wasn't anywhere near him. Right decision.

Ancelotti will be delighted with the application Chelsea have shown after that early Milito goal and it looks for all the world as though Chelsea will get an away goal tonight at some point.

Now Cesar is called into action to punch out a strike from Michael Ballack. From the resulting throw, Ivanovic hurls the ball into Drogba, who controls with his chest, spins and fires his shot just wide.

Chelsea have responded well to going down to an early goal and are applying pressure to their hosts.

DROGBA HITS THE BAR! The Ivorian rattles the woodwork with a stunning free kick from 25 yards. Brilliant effort after Dejan Stankovic was penalised for a foul.

Milito cuts inside Ricardo Carvalho and delivers a deep cross to the back post where Samuel Eto'o is lurking, but his volley lacks conviction and bounces wide.

Salomon Kalou does superbly to give two markers the slip and fires one in from 20 yards that Julio Cesar grabs to his chest.

Anelka has Chelsea's first attempt on goal as he cuts inside from a tight angle and drags his shot shy of the near post. He should have opted to cross really.

Thiago Motta is rightly shown a yellow card for an extremely high foot on Michael Ballack, so much so in fact that his boot connected with the German's face. Ouch.

Javier Zanetti bombs forward from left back and looks to exchange passes with Sneijder to burst into the box, but Ivanovic is alert and shepherds the Argentine wide.

Ivanovic loses possession with a sloppy square pass and Milito picks up the ball, but he is halted in his tracks by a tackle from John Obi Mikel.

Walter Samuel heads clear from an Ivanovic cross and when Kalou picks up the ball, he trips over his own feet when attempting a stepover and loses possession.

Lucio produces two superb tackles in quick succession to deny Kalou and then Lampard, who was hoping to pick up the loose ball. Excellent from the Brazilian.

Frank Lampard, who turned down Inter in the summer of 2008, is penalised for handball and looks unimpressed. This is a big challenge for Chelsea now.

Eto'o attempted to find Wesley Sneijder on the edge of the box but the ball rolled into the path of Miito, who shimmied inside Terry and beat Cech at his near post. Brilliant finish.

GOAL! Diego Milito rifles Inter into an early lead with a fierce finish.

Chelsea have kept the ball in the Inter half so far and it is an unproblematic start from the English side.

Lucio puts in an early reducer on Didier Drogba by the touchline and the striker gets gingerly to his feet.

KICK OFF!

Inter line up in a 4-3-1-2 with Wesley Sneijder playing as a playmaker in front of a midfield of Dejan Stankovic, Esteban Cambiasso and Thiago Motta. Chelsea go 4-3-3 with Kalou and Anelka flanking the dangerman, Drogba.

Both sets of players are in the tunnel and we will soon be hearing that famous Champions League music. Gets you in the mood, doesn't it?

The good news for Chelsea is that Frank Lampard returns having missed the game against Wolves. The only players that did not feature under Mourinho are Branislav Ivanovic and Nicolas Anelka.

The year before, it was Liverpool that sent them out at the first knockout stage so English teams have proved problematic for the Nerazzurri in recent years. Can Mr Mourinho end that particular jinx?

After leaving Chelsea, Jose won the Serie A title in his first season with Inter and looks on course to repeat the feat, but it is the Champions League that Inter desire and last year they went out at this stage to Manchester United.

For all the pre-match talk about Mourinho, it is Ancelotti who has grabbed the spotlight prior to the first leg of this last-16 clash by naming Florent Malouda in place of the injured Ashley Cole and Yuri Zhirkov at left back. A masterstroke, or a critical error?

The time has come. Jose 'The Special One' Mourinho comes up against his old enemy Carlo Ancelotti and more than a few friends as Inter Milan host Chelsea in the Champions League. Don't move a muscle, this will be dramatic.

Live comments will appear here from 1930 GMT.
