Real Madrid against AC Milan

GOAL! Pato! What a finish!

Marcelo gets towards the area and hands off to Benzema but his cross cum chot is held by Dida.

Ronaldinho is lucky not to get a card after that melee, he gave Raul a little back handed slap as the Madrid captain tried to separate the warring players but the ref missed it.

More drama! Thiago Silva bundles the ball in from the corner but the ref rules it out then there is a 20-man brawl in the penalty area! It looked like a perfectly good goal. Raul and Nesta are booked for the handbags.

Casillas has redeemed himself! Pirlo has another go, Pepe gets in the way but it ricochets into Pato's path and Casillas saves his shot with a leg.

What drama! Kaka fires a shot in, Dida spills it and Raul chips it over him before Zambrotta cleared it off the line. Raul was offside though, so perhaps we should all calm down a bit.

Pirlo looks like he's taken a knock as Ramos tackled him. It looked fairly innocuous though.

Ronaldinho gets a hand up from the referee after Pep brings him down. He looks at it though, for the first time in the game.

Diarra tees up Alonso who hits one over from 22 yards out. You'd expect better from the ex-Liverpool man in that situation.

Benzema shows great control on the touchline but his one-two with Raul is deflected into Dida's arms.

Ronaldinho shows a flash of genius as he whips past Pepe and delivers a teasing cross. It is cleared to Seedorf but his shot is wild.

No more than Real deserve in truth. Drenthe has been lively since he came on but Raul showed great determination to get over and take the corner urgently.

Brilliant from Raul there. Alonso was taking his time to get over to the corner so the striker pegged it over, took it to Drenthe on the edge of the box and he drills a left foot shot into the bottom corner.

GOAL! Drenthe!

Drenthe and Marcelo combine down the left to win a corner.

From the corner the ball breaks to Kaka but his shot dribbles wide.

Drenthe, who is on for Granero, hits his shot into the wall then Diarra's effort is deflected behind for a corner.

Zambrotta gets a booking for bringing Raul down. Free kick on the edge of the box, on the right side of centre.

Now all of a sudden, Madrid are chasing a game they thought was never in danger. It shows you what a fickle game this can be.

Pepe thinks 'if Pirlo can do it so can I' and tries his luck from 45 yards. The end result is very, very different.

Unbelievable. Real looked utterly in control, then a missile from Pirlo draws Milan level, before Casillas takes leave of his senses and gifts them a lead. He nearly handled it when he realised he was in trouble. That would have been a red card for sure as he was ten yards out of his area.

Casillas has made a right old mess of that! A ball forward from Ambrosini spits off the turf, the 'keeper hesitates, misses it and Pato stabs the ball into the empty net. Astonishing.

GOAL! Pato!

Raul nudges Pirlo off the ball but is penalised.

Well, that has stunned the Bernabeu. Milan haven't looked like scoring at all but Pirlo's thunderbolt has pulled them level. All of a sudden their fans are audible.

Pirlo fires one in from at least 35 yards and it beats Casillas down to the near post. He seemed to be a bit late on the uptake there. What a gem from Pirlo.

GOAL! Milan equalise!

It's Pato's turn to sulk as Albiol tackles him. Boriello comes on for Inzhagi, who has been quiet apart from two minutes in the first half.

Great tracking back from Diarra as he dispossesses Ambrosini. What a player he is.

Ronaldinho is hustled out of possession by three Madrid players and as ALonso takes the ball from him he launches a volley of abuse at the referee. You're barking up the wrong tree there Ronny...

Pato's shot is blocked and then Madrid break but again Dida gathers a Kaka cross. Before that Ronaldinho miscontrolled a simple ball. What has happened to him?

Raul nips through on goal down the left channel but bizarrely tries to chip Dida, even though he was on his line, and he's quite tall. A good chance goes begging.

Real have had 13 shots to Milan's three and have forced seven corners compared to Milan one. Tells it's own story.

Albiol gets a yellow card for sliding in on Oddo as he shepherded the ball out of play. Totally unnecessary booking.

This time Benzema is allowed space to shoot and he rips in a howitzer. Dida pushes over the bar.

Kaka gets round Oddo and gets a left footed shot off. It was heading wide, I think, but Dida saved anyway.

Marcelo finds Kaka who controls and shoots but it was always spinning wide of the target.

Seedorf collects and clips in a cross but only Pato was in the box. And he was offside.

Good chance for Real as Granero turns Oddo on the half way line. He feeds Raul, who gets into the area but can't direct his shot on target.

The first thing to note in the second half is that Marcelo is wearing a gumshield. How odd.

We begin again...

Benzema's cross is sliced by Nesta, then Marcelo wins a corner. After it is cleared, Marcelo beats four men and thunders one goalwards but Dida saves well. And that is half time...

Diarra's excellent ball finds Benzema's excellent run but his cross is claimed by Dida. Cleanly. For once.

Diarra, who has had an excellent first half, cracks one toward goal but though it had maximum power it was always spiralling off target.

Kaka harries Oddo, tackles him from behind and then shakes his hand. Ahhh.

Kalu makes up for his earlier horror miss by putting Chelsea in front against Atletico.

Alonso's radar is off as he tries to angle a ball into the area for Granero.

Very sketchy football from Milan as Pato's awful ball is only prevented from handing Madrid a corner by Oddo. Than he whacks the ball out of play.

Oddo gets a very soft free kick after Granero put him under pressure by the corner flag. The referee obviously thinks this is a non-contact sport.

Kaka fires in a shot and wins a corner off Thiago Silva.

Great work from Diarra, who ghosts past tow players before spreading it wide for Ramos. He can only win a throw in though after his cross is deflected by Zambrotta.

Great work from Pato who nips past two before being brought down by Marcelo, the ref waves play on though and Ronaldinho cuts inside and shoots but Ramos gets a good block in.

Pato is poleaxed by Xabi Alonso after the Real man headed the Brazilian's head instead of the ball. No harm done though, he's up again.

Raul fouls Zambrotta this time but he looks mighty lively.

Raul is closing down opponents like a testosterone fuelled 15-year-old. Where does he get his energy from...

Kaka takes an age to make his mind up and Zambrotta can get in the way of his cross. Before that Real were looking very crisp and collected in possession.

Minimal contact from Inzaghi on Albiol merits a free kick for Real, according to this referee.

Ronaldinho cuts inside but hits a ball right at Pepe. Maybe the boos are getting to him.

Ronaldinho floats a ball into the box for Inzaghi, who has come into the game all of a sudden, but he is outmuscled by Albiol.

Great ball in from Oddo but Ronaldinho can't climb high enough to reach it, then Seedorf swings in another beauty that Inzaghi can't connect with. He tried to volley it when he should have launched a diving header.

Dida gets an ironic cheer from the home fans as he collects Silva's back pass.

Ronaldinho whacks a ball out for a goal kick and then shouts at Pato. Hardly seems fair...

That will do little for Milan's fragile confidence. Leonardo, who so often looks placid, has pain etched on his face. Real will fancy racking up a few now.

Incredible. I was just thinking Dida's been around for years. I remember him chcuking one in his own net when Leeds United were in the Champions League back in Spetember 2000.

What a disaster for Dida! Granero's shot was tame and the 'keeper palms it to the floor, fumbles it on the bounce, it hits his knee and rolls to Raul who taps into an empty net. What a howler.

GOAL! Raul!

Seedorf puts in a delicious cross from the left and Albiol sticks a boot out to divert it into Casillas' arms from only eight yards out. Needless to say, it wasn't intentional.

Kalou has just missed an absolute sitter for Chelsea. He had a near open goal and put it wide. Ridiculous.

Zambrotta is getting plenty of stick, maybe that's got something to do with his Barcelona past. How he got away with that I do not know.

A definite penalty has been denied Real Madrid. As Benzema got past Zambrotta, the defender hacked at him from behind and got hardly any of the ball - even though the ref gives a goal kick. Awful decision.

Granero attacks a Ramos cross but his toe poke of an effort is right at Dida.

Seedorf nearly threads a ball through to Pato who go the other side of Albiol. The defender manages to hook the ball away from Pato and Pepe tidies up.

A ridiculous effort from Pirlo, who tries to score from 40 yards. It flies miles wide.

Thiago Silva gets away with dawdling on the ball but only just, as Benzema looked to profit.

Ramos is slovenly on the ball again and as Seedorf nicks it away the Spaniard brings him down. Not much from Milan as an attacking force yet.

Marcelo wins a Real corner but Nesta heads it clear of danger.

Ramos cuts inside well but then passes right to Zambrotta. What was I just saying?

Kaka and Raul work space for Benzema but his curling shot is well blocked by Oddo.

Pato shows exquisite control to bring down a crossfield Pirlo pass but then he gets in a tangle. How often do you see a player do the hard things easily and make a mess of the simple things..

Ronaldinho is roundly booed as he touches the ball for the first time. He offloads to Zambrotta with a neat little flick.

Marcelo is the first player to look menacing as he gets a cross in from the left but Oddo deals with it comfortably.

We're off...

We're all set at the Bernabeu, where the final will be played in seven months time...

As for the situation in the group, Real are out in front with two wins out of two. Milan beat Marseille away from home but lost, embarrassingly, to FC Zuirch at home. Let's hope for goals between two sides who have 16 European titles between them.

A good illustration of how the teams are faring can be seen in their goal difference. Real's is +21. Milan's is -2.

Ruud Gullit, who is doing our punditry, thinks the very fact that AC Milan sold Kaka shows their star is on the wane. How often do they do that, he asks. Leonardo is certainly struggling, as Milan sit in 8th place in Serie A, seven off Inter at the top.

Real beat Valladolid 4-2 on Sunday abut have already lost to Sevilla this season. As ever, they look threatening going forward but still manage to give off an air of shakiness at the back. Ronaldo is missing of course but they have more than enough quality to win and win well.

Milan are currently playing as if they are still mourning Kaka but they did at least come from behind to beat Roma at the weekend. The winner saw Ronaldinho float a glorious ball over the top for Pato, who finished clinically. AC need their Brazilians to fire tonight, that's for sure.

Lots of sub plots here of course. Kaka faces his former side, Ronaldinho returns to the scene of one of his finest ever performances and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will think he never left Spain.

Real: Casillas, Pepe, Sergio Ramos, Albiol, Granero, Alonso, Marcelo, Kaka, L Diarra, Benzema and Raul. Subs: Dudek, Arbeloa, M Diarra, Drenthe, Garay and Van der Vaart.

Milan: Dida, Thiago Silva, Oddo, Nesta, Seedorf, Zambrotta, Pirlo, Ambrosini Inzaghi, Pato and Ronaldinho. Subs: Roma, Kaladze, Huntelaar, Falmini, Jankulovski, Borriello and Antonini.

Good evening everyone and welcome to live coverage of AC Milan's visit to Real Madrid. The meeting of two European giants always gets the pulse racing but rarely have the Italian side been such underdogs.

Join us at 1945 BST to see Milan travel to the Bernabeu to face the new-look Real Madrid.
