Not many of his team mates are rushing over to concole Chimbonda - he's hardly the most popular member of the team by the looks of it. I still blame Jenas. He could have won it. Anyway, the marathon is over! Thanks for your comapny. Until next time.
What an awful penalty. He's screwed it well wide of the goal and PSV are through, they scarcely deserve it, but they are through. What a sad night for English clubs - both Spurs and Everton go out.
Chimbonda has missed by a mile! Spurs are out!
Chimbonda steps up. He must score...
Marcellis scores for PSV, back to Spurs again!
Zokora then runs towards the keeper and smashes the ball into the net again, Gomes takes offence and the ref looks like he's going to book him but doesn't.
Zokora scores! His first Spurs goal.

Possession
Zokora steps up....
Bakkal scores. Its sudden death now so if Spurs don't score they are out.
Everton are out, beaten on pens by Fiorentina.
Why oh why ask Jenas to take such a crucial pen?! He who falls apart in front of goal?!
He's missed it! Gomes saves!
Jenas to win it for Spurs then....oh no!! Not him!
If PSV don't score Spurs win. Dzsudzsak does though. PSV 4-4 Spurs.
Darren Bent. Scores. PSV 3-4 Spurs. Great pen.
Salcido. Scores. PSV 3-3 Spurs.
Tom Huddlestone. Scores. PSV 2-3 Spurs.
Farfan scores. PSV 2-2 Spurs.
Gomes oh-so nearly has saved that! He got a hand on it but it trickled in off the post!
Jamie O'Hara. Scores. PSV 1-2 Spurs.
Lazovic misses! Robbo saves! PSV 1-1 Spurs.
What a cool penalty from Berbatov. Brilliant.
Berbatov .. scores. PSV 1-1 Spurs.
Simons scores. PSV 1-0 Spurs.
PSV will take first and Timmy Simons steps up.
So, here we go then. Its penalties. Finally the home crowd come to life. A chance for Paul Robinson or Gomes to become a hero.
That's it, the tie will be settled by penalties. Don't go anywhere.
Then Gomes makes a hash of the corner! He'd be a good keeper if he could just stay on his line once in a while!
What a shot! What a save! Malbranque has fired aleft foot volley towards the top corner but Gomes gets across to make a superb save!
Dzsudzsak lines up the free kick but strikes it harmlessly wide.
That's a very tired cross from Huddlestone and he could be out of position now. Zokora ends up bringing down Lazovic and Zokora's protestations at the free kick award earn him a booking.
Everton Fiorentina is locked level too. Looks like penalties are looming large at Goodison Park too.
The players look shattered here. Penalties is an odds on bet now. The crowd have gone eerily quiet again. What is up with them?!
I thought a bit of reverse pyschology would work - both sides break and are inches away from creating a chance inside the area.
Ooh, Bent nearly gets a whiff of Huddlestone's through ball before Marcellis intervenes. I can't see a winning goal at this stage I have to say.
Mendez is off and Bakkal is on, as Farfan hits a drive goalwards before its blocked by a sea of white shirts.
Now Zokora has undone his good work by giving away a needless foul on Lazkovic.
Well done Zokora, Culina tried to be a little too cute on the edge of the area but he got in just before he could flick it in the direction of Farfan.
Right, I've decided, we need a goal. Chop chop Spurs or PSV, not necessarily in that order.
Huddlestone has been carded for a poor tackle on Kromkamp. Not malicious, just late.
Bent turns inside the area but Salcido blocks his shot. Those PSV defenders need to get tighter. Spurs corner.
Spurs do not have a good record in penalty shoot outs I can inform you. The last time they won on pens was in a shoot out with Peterborough back in 1994.
We're off again...
There we are, the first half of extra time comes to an end. If we don't have a goal in the next 15 mins it a penalty fest...
Great ball in from Dzsudzsak - he's looked very lively since he came on. Woodgate does well to clear ahead of Farfan.
Berbatov looks more than a little exasperated by Bent's inability to hold the ball up. He shakes his head as Bent loses out to Salcidos again.
Its gone a bit stale in the Philipsstadion all of a sudden.
Good tackle from Malbranue to dispossess Kromkamp and then Berbatov releases Bent but he overruns the ball and PSV have a goal kick.
O'Hara swings it in, Jenas sticks a leg out and it loops up invitingly for Berbatov who should have done better on the volley - especially considering his goal.
Bent has done well to turn Salcidos and win a free kick 40 yards out.
A reminder that if we have no more goals in extra time then penalties will decide the tie.
Spurs were nearly caught square there, fortunately for them Farfan's ball to Lazovic was a fraction too late and the youngster was offside.
Kromkamp's low ball finds Farfan inside the area but Woodgate blocks his shot.
PSV have look shaky at the back all night - Salcidos nearly heads a clearance into the path of Bent there - how Spurs haven't scored more than one I don't know.
Huddlestone heads the corner away and Culina volleys it goalwards before Jenas sticks his head in the way. It was going in as well.
Lazovic does well down the left and wins a corner off Woodgate.
Darren Bent has gone close again! He's had some decent opportunities this evening. Bent volleys Berbatov's lovely through ball and it creeps just wide of Gomes' post.
We are off in extra time...
For the purposes of extra time, I shall revert back to 90 minutes from the restart, so it will run for half an hour until the 120th minute.
The home side had very few men in the box for the free kick, representative of their lack of ambition all night really. Full time, and we will have extra time...
Now, free kick for PSV wide on the left.
Gomes is nuts! He's come to the edge of his box to try and punch a long punt from Huddlestone. What on earth is he doing?! He just wants to be involved!!
Berbatov looks absolutely shattered. And a bit sulky seeing as his big mate Robbie Keane has gone off.
Three mins of extra time..
Spurs have regained their composure a little here and the shape has returned. I think both sides are braced for extra tine.
If it stays like this campers, we have extra time to look forward to of course.....
Spurs must make sure they don't commit too many men forward here. They are still out of shape somewhat.
Spurs are still bang on top here, and can sniff a winner in the last four minutes. As I say that, Bent's header is well saved by Gomes. Excellent stop.
O'Hara is on for Robbie Keane and Spurs have their fourth left back of the night!
Ooh! Mendez has let fly and very nearly hit the top corner. It was always swerving away though.
Jamie O'Hara is stripped and ready to come on.
Dzsudzsak came on for Afellay by the way. I didn't spot the substitution amidst all the drama. A stealth swap if you will.
At the other end Dzsudzsak fires a shot in at Robinson. It was a smart save as the ball bounced right in front of the tubby stopper.
What a strike! Berbatov has belted a cross from Chimbonda flush on the volley and it has skidded past Gomes. Spurs have their goal!
GOAL! Berbatov scores!
Bent had acres of space inside the area there but couldn't pick out the right ball. Ten minutes left for Spurs' UEFA Cup dreams.
Great work from jenas. He robs Culina off the ball then delivers a wicked cross but it is a little long for Keane. Then after a session of pinball on the edge of the box Simons whacks it clear. The pressure is building.
Oh what a tangle! Salcido and Gomes have got in a right mess again! The defender tries to chest it back, the ball falls short then they both go for it as Keane approaches and finally Salcido hacks away in the nick of time. Schoolboy stuff!
Awful from Huddlestone. He tries a ball with the outside of the right foot and succeeds in giving it straight to Simons.
Surely there is a goal in this game. Spurs are committing so many players forward there are gaps everywhere and PSV are beginning to exploit them.
Wonderful play from Afellay - he sells two Spurs players a dummy but Farfan can't collect Culina's ball and the move breaks down.
Keane nips clear down the right and stands up a cross for Berbatov but Gomes is out to claim again. He's well up for it the keeper.
Danny Koevermans is off, Danko Lazovic is on.
Huddlestone's free kick finds Keane at the front of a gaggle of players and his looping header has continued looping a bit too far, and over the bar. Spurs are getting closer.
Darren Bent! What is he doing! He was clean through, at an angle admittedly, but he's tried to find Keane but Marcellis clears. Why didn't Bent shoot?!
Berbatov does well to keep possession and touch off to Huddlestone but his half volley is always rising and goes over.
Goal at Everton! Mikel Arteta scores and it is 2-0. All square in the tie!
Huddlestone floats in a free kick for Spurs but the eager beaver Gomes is off his line to punch clear again.
The game is stretched now, as you'd expect, what with Spurs playing 3-3-4 almost.
Ooh, just wide! Robbo didn't move and it has just curled narrowly wide! A let off for Spurs!
Woodgate has been a bit keen to close Farfan down here and PSV have a great chance. Free kick, central, 25 yards out. Farfan over it.
Good opportunity for PSV, a clear sight of goal for Koevemans who fires one in from 20 yards and luckily Woodgate is on hand to clear from the advancing Afellay.
Gomes has come charging off his line to punch clear after Berbatov flicked on towards Keane. The Irishman gets flattened for his troubles. He's up and moving now though.
Faran and obinson race for a ball down the right as Malbranque struggles to adjust to his new role. The keeper gets there to hoof clear.
Still three at the back for Spurs with Malbranque at the left and Zokora and Woodgate propping up the middle. At least they won't be accused of not going for it.
Ledley King is coming off for Aaron Lennon. Interesting.
Jenas! Exactly what I was saying earlier, he does ever so well to break and charge into the area before trying a pathetic flick style cross. He should have hit it, or at least crossed earlier. Useless.
Aaron Lennon looks like he is about to come on as Spurs prepare to throw the kitchen sink at PSV.
Although they have created a couple of chances the three up front tactic doesn't seem to be working especially well. Berbatov looks a little lost sitting in behind the top two.
Huddlestone stand it up and Berbatov meets it but directs his header wide. Maybe he should have done better, given his class.
The game has livened up, and so has the crowd. That is more like it from the home fans. On the field Keane goes down and wins a free kick, 40 yards out, just to the right.
Chimbonda and Jenas have got themselves out of jail there after getting in each other's way on the touchline. Jenas has been injured as he tried to rescue the ball from Afellay too. Communication breakdown alert.
Now Huddlestone concedes a free kick, but it was very harsh. Marcellis flicks an arm out and for some reason the ref gives him a free kick. Farfan hits it but it flies over.
That could have been game over right there. What a miss from Koevermans.
Koevermans has fluffed the best chance of the night! Kromkamp squares the abll to Culina, he crosses as Spurs rush out and Koevermans, completely unmarked four yards out can only dangle a leg at it and fail to make contact with it.
Now PSV have a free kick, Malbranque bundling Mendez to the deck.
That was a bit casual from Chimbonda! He tries to chest a Kromkamp cross back to his keeper but gets it wrong and Zokora has to put it behind for a corner, which amounts to nothing.
This bodes welll for the second half - its upped a notch from both sides already.
Robinson is out smartly as Simons gallops on to a Mendez pass. He had to be quick there the Spurs keeper, and he did well.
Bent has nearly scored with his first touch! Malbranque plays in Keane, he cuts the ball back for Bent who hits it left footed and Gomes scrambles across to get there just before it sneaks in.
Looks like Zokora has gone to left back in the Spurs reshuffle.
Darren Bent is coming on for Young-Pyo Lee as Spurs look to secure the goal they need. We continue...
There we are, what a strange half. A funereal atmosphere, an awful pitch and no goals, but Spurs on top. We still await the first goal however, 0-0 at HT.
Culina works himself some space in a rare PSV forray forward but he only has Farfan to aim for, and his ball is too long.
Good move from Spurs! Lee's cross is laid off to Huddlestone and his shot flicks Salcido and arks wide. Corner.
Chelsea have scored against Derby, a Frank Lampard pen. Brimingham have made it 2-2 against Portsmouth and Middlesbro' are ahead at Aston Villa through Stewart Downing.
Alcides rises to head firmly .... behind his own goal for another corner, which is cleared by Afellay.
Huddlestone hits it but the wall jumps and gets a flick on it for a corner.
Another free kick for Spurs for a foul on the recently carded Jenas. About 25 yards out, pretty central.
Jenas has been booked for a rash challenge on Mendez. A bit harsh but it wasn't pretty.
Nearly for Spurs! A long ball from king is taken down beautifully by Berbatov on the box edge and he goes over looking for a pen but Malbranque is there to cross for Keane but Marcellis nips in in front. The visitors are getting closer.
The players are losing their footing all over the place on this pitch. The state of the grass doesn't make for a particularly flowing game I have to say.
From the corner Ledley king gets a glancing blow on the ball which narrowly misses the far post, and Robbie Keane, who was lurking with intent. Good signs from Spurs.
What a mix up at the back! Keeper Gomes and Salcido have both gone for the same ball after Chimbonda's flick on. Gomes came to claim but Salcido got his head on it and the ball bounces a few yards wide.
Juande Ramos is waving his arms around in the technical area - trying to coax a little more attacking cohesion from his side no doubt.
That was rubbish from Alcides. He had time and space to deliver a cross of quality. He did anything but. The home crowd are getting restless, even though this score - and this slightly dull type of game - suits their overall aim.
Don't get me wrong, Jenas has the ability to be excellent on his day but so often he is careless in possession and wasteful in front of goal. He misses more open goals than he converts.
Jenas can look very, very average when he wants to. Usually when confronted with the opposition goal. He's tried a hopeful flick into the path of Chimbonda when he should have brought it down and let the move flow on. terrible.
An awful delivery from Jenas, low and weak. Poor, poor, poor.
Young-Pyo Lee does well to win a corner.
Berbatov wins a knock down against Marcellis and Keane chases it into the penalty area but Salcido bends a leg round it to clear.
Malbranque tries to nod down into the path of Keane from a looped huddlestone pass but Salcido deals with the threat.
One or two things are being lobbed at Robbbie keane as he wins a thrown in by the corner flag. Now now PSV fans...
Another cracking ball in from Culina, this time Woodgate can't get a head to it and is reliant on Chimbonda to calmly nod back to Robinson.
Farfan's corner is long, and wasted.
Culina breaks down the right and floats over a decent ball which Woodagte heads behind for a corner, under no pressure at all.
The pitch looks like it is cutting up a little already. The ball is sticking in the turf too, Jenas completely overran a looped ball from Huddlestone a moment ago. Have they not watered it?
You could here a pin drop in the stadium, quite why I do not know. Must be nerves from the home fans.
PSV are playing one up front again - they are inviting Spurs onto them and the north Londoners are only too happy to oblige.
First big chance! Berbatov has slipped Malbranque inside the area and from an angle, ten yards out, he has blazed wide. Should have been a Spurs goal!
A bit of a flap from Alcides affords Berbatov a half chance but he hooks the ball wide of goal from outside the area.
Farfan does extremelt well there, outfoxing Woodgate and Chimbonda. Great upper body strength from the Peruvian.
Everton have scored against Fiorentina! Game on!
Both sides are being a bit careless in possession so far, but Woodgate sprays a lovely ball to Malbranque just as I type that. Keane can't get on the end of his square pass though.
Koevermans crosses into the Spurs box and Ledley King rises to head clear of the dangerous Farfan.
PSV are enjoying their first spell of pressure - a nice move sweeping from right to left involving Jason Culina, but the Aussie can't get his ball into the box.
There's been one heck of a start in the Premier League at Fratton Park, its already Portsmouth 2-1 Birmingham with less than ten minuites gone!
Then Spurs flight in another free kick, Marcellis looking less than comfortable under the challenge of Woodgate, but the former Boro man is adjudged to have fouled his opposite number.
A slice of cut and thrust at either end, a nice move from Spurs breaks down with a poor Zokora pass, then Farfan breaks down the right but can't keep the ball in.
Zokora looks for Keane in the channel but PSV keeper Gomes is out quickly to claim.
Great ball in from Jenas but PSV clear their lines.
Spurs have a free kick, which Berbatov won. Chance for quality into the box.
The instantly noticeable thing about the Philipsstadion pitch is that it it strewn with litter, and I don't mean Spurs' team.
The camera angle is quite distant and the picture a bit fuzzy, so take each naming of a player with a pinch of salt, unless its a close-up.
Here we go....
The teams are out, PSV are in a huddle, and we are poised for kick off.
Spurs have the potent partnership of Berbatov and Keane up top, while it'll be interesting to see how PSV approach the game. It should be a cracker. I'll do my best to keep you updated with all the other scores on a busy evening of football too.
So, the first leg in a nutshell. A bit dull. PSV packed the midfield and played on the counter attack, while Spurs floundered trying to break them down. Debutant Gilberto made a rick and allowed Farfan to score a precious away goal.
PSV: Gomes, Mendez, Kromkamp, Marcellis, Salcido, Simons, Afellay, Alcides, Culina, Koevermans and Farfan.
Ruminations shortly, but first ... the teams. Tottenham: Robinson, Chimbonda, Woodgate, King, Lee, Jenas, Zokora, Huddlestone, Malbranque, Berbatov and Keane.
Good evening European football fans and welcome to the Philipsstadion. Sorry, that was misleading. I'm not actually there, I'm in London - at ESPNsoccernet HQ no less - but I shall be watching the pictures from Eindhoven and relaying the action to you post haste. Sounds chipper does it not?
